Sura 84 - Al-Inshiqaaq
In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) nameٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God,ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāniMost Gracious,ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmiMost Merciful.
[84:1] The time will come when the sky is ruptured.
إِذَاidhāWhen [in the future]ٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe skyٱنشَقَّتْinshaqqatit (will be) split asunder / ruptured, ﴿١﴾
[84:2] It will submit to its Lord and expire.
وَأَذِنَتْwa-adhinatAnd it (will have) listened لِرَبِّهَاlirabbihāto its Lordوَحُقَّتْwaḥuqqatand it (will be) obligated / expired. ﴿٢﴾
[84:3] The earth will be leveled.
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earthمُدَّتْmuddatit (will be) spread / leveled. ﴿٣﴾
[84:4] It will eject its contents, as it erupts.
وَأَلْقَتْwa-alqatAnd it (will be) cast out / ejectedمَاwhat (is)فِيهَاfīhāin itوَتَخَلَّتْwatakhallatand it (will be) emptied. ﴿٤﴾
[84:5] It will submit to its Lord and expire.
وَأَذِنَتْwa-adhinatAnd it (will have) listenedلِرَبِّهَاlirabbihāto its Lordوَحُقَّتْwaḥuqqatand it (will be) obligated / expired. ﴿٥﴾
[84:6] O humans, you are irreversibly heading for a meeting with your Lord.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāOٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānu[the] human!إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, you (are)كَادِحٌkādiḥunlaboringإِلَىٰilātoرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordكَدْحًاkadḥan(with) exertionفَمُلَـٰقِيهِfamulāqīhiand one who will meet Him. ﴿٦﴾
[84:7] As for the one who receives his record in his right hand,
فَأَمَّاfa-ammāThen as forمَنْman(him) whoأُوتِىَūtiyahe was givenكِتَـٰبَهُۥkitābahuhis recordبِيَمِينِهِۦbiyamīnihiin his right hand, ﴿٧﴾
[84:8] His reckoning will be easy.
فَسَوْفَfasawfaThen soonيُحَاسَبُyuḥāsabuhe will reckonحِسَابًاḥisābanan accountيَسِيرًاyasīraneasy. ﴿٨﴾
[84:9] He will return to his people joyfully.
وَيَنقَلِبُwayanqalibuAnd he will returnإِلَىٰٓilātoأَهْلِهِۦahlihihis peopleمَسْرُورًاmasrūranhappy / joyful. ﴿٩﴾
[84:10] As for the one who receives his record behind his back,
وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as forمَنْman(him) whoأُوتِىَūtiyahe was givenكِتَـٰبَهُۥkitābahuhis recordوَرَآءَwarāabehindظَهْرِهِۦẓahrihihis back. ﴿١٠﴾
[84:11] He will be ridden with remorse.
فَسَوْفَfasawfaThen soonيَدْعُوا۟yadʿūhe will callثُبُورًاthubūran(for) remorse. ﴿١١﴾
[84:12] And will burn in Hell.
وَيَصْلَىٰwayaṣlāAnd he will burnسَعِيرًاsaʿīran(in) a Blaze / Hell. ﴿١٢﴾
[84:13] He used to act arrogantly among his people.
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, heكَانَkāna[he] wasفِىٓamongأَهْلِهِۦahlihihis peopleمَسْرُورًاmasrūranhappy / smug (arrogant). ﴿١٣﴾
[84:14] He thought that he will never be called to account.
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, heظَنَّẓanna[he] thoughtأَنanthatلَّنlanneverيَحُورَyaḥūrahe will return. ﴿١٤﴾
[84:15] Yes indeed, his Lord was Seer of him.
بَلَىٰٓbalāYes!إِنَّinnaIndeed,رَبَّهُۥrabbahuhis Lordكَانَkānawasبِهِۦbihiof himبَصِيرًاbaṣīranSeer. ﴿١٥﴾
[84:16] I solemnly swear by the rosy dusk.
فَلَآfalāBut nay!أُقْسِمُuq'simuI swearبِٱلشَّفَقِbil-shafaqiby the rosy dusk. ﴿١٦﴾
[84:17] And the night as it spreads.
وَٱلَّيْلِwa-al-layliAnd the nightوَمَاwamāand whatوَسَقَwasaqait enveloped / spread. ﴿١٧﴾
[84:18] And the moon and its phases.
وَٱلْقَمَرِwal-qamariAnd the moonإِذَاidhāwhenٱتَّسَقَittasaqait became full. ﴿١٨﴾
[84:19] You will move from stage to stage.
لَتَرْكَبُنَّlatarkabunnaSurely you [all] will embark / ride / moveطَبَقًاṭabaqan(from) stageعَنʿantoطَبَقٍṭabaqinstage. ﴿١٩﴾
[84:20] Why do they not believe?
فَمَاfamāSo what (is)لَهُمْlahumfor themلَاnotيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believe, ﴿٢٠﴾
[84:21] And when the Quran is recited to them, they do not fall prostrate.
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenقُرِئَquri-ait was recitedعَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimuto themٱلْقُرْءَانُl-qur'ānuthe Quran,لَاnotيَسْجُدُونَyasjudūnathey prostrate? ﴿٢١﴾
[84:22] This is because those who disbelieved are rejecting (the Quran).
بَلِbaliNay!ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarū[they] disbelievedيُكَذِّبُونَyukadhibūna[they] deny / reject. ﴿٢٢﴾
[84:23] GOD is fully aware of their innermost thoughts.
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd God (is)أَعْلَمُaʿlamufully awareبِمَاbimāof whatيُوعُونَyūʿūnathey contain (*keep within themselves). ﴿٢٣﴾
[84:24] Promise them painful retribution.
فَبَشِّرْهُمfabashir'humSo promise themبِعَذَابٍbiʿadhābinof a retributionأَلِيمٍalīminpainful. ﴿٢٤﴾
[84:25] As for those who believed and led a righteous life, they receive a recompense that is well deserved.
إِلَّاillāExceptٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanū[they] believedوَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand [they] didٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥāti[the] righteous deeds.لَهُمْlahumFor them (is)أَجْرٌajruna reward / recompenseغَيْرُghayrunever / withoutمَمْنُونٍۭmamnūninending. ﴿٢٥﴾
