In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) nameٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God,ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāniMost Gracious,ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmiMost Merciful.
[76:1] Is it not a fact that there was a time when the human being was nothing to be mentioned?
هَلْhalHasأَتَىٰatāit cameعَلَىʿalāuponٱلْإِنسَـٰنِl-insānithe human beingحِينٌḥīnuna periodمِّنَminaofٱلدَّهْرِl-dahri[the] timeلَمْlamnotيَكُنyakunhe wasشَيْـًٔاshayana thingمَّذْكُورًاmadhkūranremembered / mentioned? ﴿١﴾
[76:2] We created the human from a liquid mixture, from two parents, in order to test him. Thus, we made him a hearer and a seer.
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, weخَلَقْنَاkhalaqnā[we] createdٱلْإِنسَـٰنَl-insānathe human beingمِنminfromنُّطْفَةٍnuṭ'fatina semen-drop / tiny drop,أَمْشَاجٍamshājina mixture,نَّبْتَلِيهِnabtalīhi(that) we test him;فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُfajaʿalnāhuthen we made himسَمِيعًۢاsamīʿana hearerبَصِيرًاbaṣīrana seer. ﴿٢﴾
[76:3] We showed him the two paths, then, he is either appreciative, or unappreciative.
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, weهَدَيْنَـٰهُhadaynāhu[we] guided himٱلسَّبِيلَl-sabīla(to) the pathإِمَّاimmāwhetherشَاكِرًاshākiran(he is) appreciativeوَإِمَّاwa-immāand whether / orكَفُورًاkafūran(he is) unappreciative. ﴿٣﴾
[76:4] We prepared for the disbelievers chains, shackles, and a blazing Hell.
إِنَّآinnāIndeed, weأَعْتَدْنَاaʿtadnā[we] preparedلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَlil'kāfirīnafor the disbelieversسَلَـٰسِلَا۟salāsilāchainsوَأَغْلَـٰلًاwa-aghlālanand shacklesوَسَعِيرًاwasaʿīranand a blazing Hell. ﴿٤﴾
[76:5] As for the virtuous, they will drink from cups spiced with nectar.
إِنَّinnaIndeed,ٱلْأَبْرَارَl-abrārathe righteous / virtuousيَشْرَبُونَyashrabūnathey will drinkمِنminfromكَأْسٍkasina cup,كَانَkānait (will) beمِزَاجُهَاmizājuhāits mixture (of)كَافُورًاkāfūrancamphor / nectar. ﴿٥﴾
[76:6] A spring that is reserved for GOD's servants; it will gush out as they will.
عَيْنًاʿaynanA springيَشْرَبُyashrabu[he] will drinkبِهَاbihāfrom itعِبَادُʿibādu(the) servantsٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God;يُفَجِّرُونَهَاyufajjirūnahāthey causing it to gush forthتَفْجِيرًاtafjīranflowing in abundance. ﴿٦﴾
[76:7] They fulfill their pledges, and reverence a day that is extremely difficult.
يُوفُونَyūfūnaThey fulfillبِٱلنَّذْرِbil-nadhri[in] the vows / pledgesوَيَخَافُونَwayakhāfūnaand they fear / reverenceيَوْمًاyawmana Dayكَانَkānait (will) beشَرُّهُۥsharruhuits evil / adversity / difficultyمُسْتَطِيرًاmus'taṭīranfar and wide / widespread. ﴿٧﴾
[76:8] They donate their favorite food to the poor, the orphan, and the captive.
وَيُطْعِمُونَwayuṭ'ʿimūnaAnd they feedٱلطَّعَامَl-ṭaʿāmathe foodعَلَىٰʿalāwithحُبِّهِۦḥubbihiits love / cheerfullyمِسْكِينًاmis'kīnan(to the) poor,وَيَتِيمًاwayatīmanand (the) orphanوَأَسِيرًاwa-asīranand (the) captive. ﴿٨﴾
[76:9] "We feed you for the sake of GOD; we expect no reward from you, nor thanks.
إِنَّمَاinnamā"Onlyنُطْعِمُكُمْnuṭ'ʿimukumwe feed you [all]لِوَجْهِliwajhifor the face / sakeٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God.لَاlāNotنُرِيدُnurīduwe desire / seekمِنكُمْminkumfrom you [all]جَزَآءًjazāana rewardوَلَاwalāand notشُكُورًاshukūranthanks. ﴿٩﴾
[76:10] "We fear from our Lord a day that is full of misery and trouble."
إِنَّاinnā"Indeed, weنَخَافُnakhāfu[we] fearمِنminfromرَّبِّنَاrabbināour Lordيَوْمًاyawmana Dayعَبُوسًاʿabūsanfrowning / grim / full of miseryقَمْطَرِيرًاqamṭarīrandistressful / frowning (trouble)." ﴿١٠﴾
[76:11] Consequently, GOD protects them from the evils of that day, and rewards them with joy and contentment.
فَوَقَىٰهُمُfawaqāhumuBut [He] protected themٱللَّهُl-lahuGodشَرَّsharra(from) evilذَٰلِكَdhālika(of) thatٱلْيَوْمِl-yawmithe Dayوَلَقَّىٰهُمْwalaqqāhumand [He] gifted themنَضْرَةًnaḍratanradiance / joyوَسُرُورًاwasurūranand happiness. ﴿١١﴾
[76:12] He rewards them for their steadfastness with Paradise, and silk.
وَجَزَىٰهُمwajazāhumAnd He (will) reward themبِمَاbimābecauseصَبَرُوا۟ṣabarūthey were steadfast,جَنَّةًjannatan(with) Paradiseوَحَرِيرًاwaḥarīranand freedom / silk. ﴿١٢﴾
[76:13] They relax therein on luxurious furnishings. They suffer neither the heat of the sun, nor any cold.
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَmuttakiīnaThose reclining / relaxingفِيهَاfīhāthereinعَلَىʿalāonٱلْأَرَآئِكِl-arāikithe luxurious furnishings.لَاlāNotيَرَوْنَyarawnathey (will) seeفِيهَاfīhāthereinشَمْسًاshamsansun-heatوَلَاwalāand notزَمْهَرِيرًاzamharīranfreezing cold. ﴿١٣﴾
[76:14] The shade covers them therein, and the fruits are brought within reach.
وَدَانِيَةًwadāniyatanAnd within reachعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimabove them (are)ظِلَـٰلُهَاẓilāluhāits shadesوَذُلِّلَتْwadhullilatand [it] (will) hang lowقُطُوفُهَاquṭūfuhāits cluster of fruitsتَذْلِيلًاtadhlīlandangling low. ﴿١٤﴾
[76:15] They are served drinks in silver containers and cups that are translucent.
وَيُطَافُwayuṭāfuAnd it will be circulated / servedعَلَيْهِمʿalayhimamong themبِـَٔانِيَةٍbiāniyatinwith vessels / cupsمِّنminofفِضَّةٍfiḍḍatinsilverوَأَكْوَابٍwa-akwābinand cupsكَانَتْkānatit (will) beقَوَارِيرَا۠qawārīrācrystal-clear / translucent. ﴿١٥﴾
[76:16] Translucent cups, though made of silver; they rightly deserved all this.
قَوَارِيرَا۟qawārīrāCrystal-clear / Translucentمِنminofفِضَّةٍfiḍḍatinsilver.قَدَّرُوهَاqaddarūhāThey (will) determine itsتَقْدِيرًاtaqdīranexact measure. ﴿١٦﴾
[76:17] They enjoy drinks of delicious flavors.
وَيُسْقَوْنَwayus'qawnaAnd they will be given to drinkفِيهَاfīhāthereinكَأْسًاkasana cupكَانَkāna[it] (will) beمِزَاجُهَاmizājuhāits mixture (of)زَنجَبِيلًاzanjabīlanginger. ﴿١٧﴾
[76:18] From a spring therein known as "Salsabeel."
عَيْنًاʿaynanA springفِيهَاfīhātherein,تُسَمَّىٰtusammānamedسَلْسَبِيلًاsalsabīlanSalsabeel. ﴿١٨﴾
[76:19] Serving them will be immortal servants. When you see them, they will look like scattered pearls.
وَيَطُوفُwayaṭūfuAnd it will be circulated / servedعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimamong themوِلْدَٰنٌwil'dānunsons / boys / servantsمُّخَلَّدُونَmukhalladūnaimmortal [ones].إِذَاidhāWhen [in the future]رَأَيْتَهُمْra-aytahumyou saw them,حَسِبْتَهُمْḥasib'tahumyou (would) thought theyلُؤْلُؤًاlu'lu-an(to be) pearlsمَّنثُورًاmanthūranscattered. ﴿١٩﴾
[76:20] Wherever you look, you will see bliss, and a wonderful dominion.
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when [in the future]رَأَيْتَra-aytayou looked,ثَمَّthammathen / thereرَأَيْتَra-aytayou (will) seeنَعِيمًاnaʿīmanblissوَمُلْكًاwamul'kanand a kingdom / dominionكَبِيرًاkabīrangreat. ﴿٢٠﴾
[76:21] On them will be clothes of green velvet, satin, and silver ornaments. Their Lord will provide them with pure drinks.
عَـٰلِيَهُمْʿāliyahumOn themثِيَابُthiyābu(will be) clothes (of)سُندُسٍsundusinfine silk / velvetخُضْرٌkhuḍ'rungreenوَإِسْتَبْرَقٌwa-is'tabraqunand embroidered silk / brocade / satinوَحُلُّوٓا۟waḥullūAnd they will be adornedأَسَاوِرَasāwira(with) braceletsمِنminofفِضَّةٍfiḍḍatinsilver.وَسَقَىٰهُمْwasaqāhumAnd will give them to drinkرَبُّهُمْrabbuhumtheir Lord,شَرَابًاsharābana drinkطَهُورًاṭahūranpure. ﴿٢١﴾
[76:22] This is the reward that awaits you, for your efforts have been appreciated.
إِنَّinna"Indeed,هَـٰذَاhādhāthisكَانَkānawasلَكُمْlakumfor you [all]جَزَآءًjazāana reward,وَكَانَwakānaand [it] wereسَعْيُكُمsaʿyukumyour effortsمَّشْكُورًاmashkūranappreciated." ﴿٢٢﴾
[76:23] We have revealed to you this Quran; a special revelation from us.
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, [we]نَحْنُnaḥnuweنَزَّلْنَاnazzalnā[we] revealedعَلَيْكَʿalaykato youٱلْقُرْءَانَl-qur'ānathe Quranتَنزِيلًاtanzīlana Revelation. ﴿٢٣﴾
[76:24] You shall steadfastly carry out your Lord's commandments, and do not obey any sinful disbeliever among them.
فَٱصْبِرْfa-iṣ'birSo be steadfastلِحُكْمِliḥuk'mifor (the) commandرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordوَلَاwalāand (do) notتُطِعْtuṭiʿyou obeyمِنْهُمْmin'humfrom themءَاثِمًاāthiman(any) sinnerأَوْaworكَفُورًاkafūrandisbeliever. ﴿٢٤﴾
[76:25] And commemorate the name of your Lord day and night.
وَٱذْكُرِwa-udh'kuriAnd rememberٱسْمَis'ma(the) nameرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordبُكْرَةًbuk'ratanmorning / dayوَأَصِيلًاwa-aṣīlanand evening / night. ﴿٢٥﴾
[76:26] During the night, fall prostrate before Him, and glorify Him many a long night.
وَمِنَwaminaAnd ofٱلَّيْلِal-laylithe nightفَٱسْجُدْfa-us'judthen prostrateلَهُۥlahuto Him,وَسَبِّحْهُwasabbiḥ'huand glorify Himلَيْلًاlaylana nightطَوِيلًاṭawīlanlong. ﴿٢٦﴾
[76:27] These people are preoccupied with this fleeting life, while disregarding - just ahead of them - a heavy day.
إِنَّinnaIndeed,هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāitheseيُحِبُّونَyuḥibbūnathey loveٱلْعَاجِلَةَl-ʿājilatathe immediate / fleeting life,وَيَذَرُونَwayadharūnaand [they] leaveوَرَآءَهُمْwarāahumbehind themيَوْمًاyawmana Dayثَقِيلًاthaqīlanheavy. ﴿٢٧﴾
[76:28] We created them, and established them, and, whenever we will, we can substitute others in their place.
نَّحْنُnaḥnuWeخَلَقْنَـٰهُمْkhalaqnāhum[we] created themوَشَدَدْنَآwashadadnāand we strengthened / establishedأَسْرَهُمْasrahumtheir joints / forms,وَإِذَاwa-idhāand whenشِئْنَاshi'nāwe willed,بَدَّلْنَآbaddalnāwe (can) substituteأَمْثَـٰلَهُمْamthālahumtheir likenessتَبْدِيلًاtabdīlan(with) any substitution. ﴿٢٨﴾
[76:29] This is a reminder: whoever wills shall choose the path to his Lord.
إِنَّinnaIndeed,هَـٰذِهِۦhādhihithis (is)تَذْكِرَةٌtadhkiratuna reminder,فَمَنfamanso whoeverشَآءَshāahe willedٱتَّخَذَittakhadhahe took / choseإِلَىٰilātoرَبِّهِۦrabbihihis Lordسَبِيلًاsabīlana path. ﴿٢٩﴾
[76:30] Whatever you will is in accordance with GOD's will. GOD is Omniscient, Wise.
وَمَاwamāAnd notتَشَآءُونَtashāūnayou [all] willإِلَّآillāexceptأَنanlestيَشَآءَyashāa[He] willsٱللَّهُl-lahuGod.إِنَّinnaIndeed,ٱللَّهَl-lahaGodكَانَkānaHe isعَلِيمًاʿalīmanOmniscient,حَكِيمًاḥakīmanWise. ﴿٣٠﴾
[76:31] He admits whomever He wills into His mercy. As for the transgressors, He has prepared for them a painful retribution.
يُدْخِلُyud'khiluHe admitsمَنmanwhomيَشَآءُyashāuHe willsفِىfīintoرَحْمَتِهِۦraḥmatihiHis mercy,وَٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَwal-ẓālimīnabut (for) the wrongdoers / transgressors,أَعَدَّaʿaddaHe preparedلَهُمْlahumfor themعَذَابًاʿadhābana retributionأَلِيمًۢاalīmanpainful. ﴿٣١﴾
