In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) nameٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God,ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāniMost Gracious,ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmiMost Merciful.
[52:1] Mt. Sinai.
وَٱلطُّورِwal-ṭūriBy the Mount (Sinai), ﴿١﴾
[52:2] The recorded scripture.
وَكِتَـٰبٍwakitābinBy (the) book / scriptureمَّسْطُورٍmasṭūrinwritten / recorded ﴿٢﴾
[52:3] Published in books.
فِىfīInرَقٍّraqqinsheet / folio / parchment / scrollمَّنشُورٍmanshūrinunrolled / unfolded / published. ﴿٣﴾
[52:4] The frequented Shrine.
وَٱلْبَيْتِwal-baytiBy the House / Shrineٱلْمَعْمُورِl-maʿmūri[the] one frequented. ﴿٤﴾
[52:5] The exalted ceiling.
وَٱلسَّقْفِwal-saqfiBy the ceilingٱلْمَرْفُوعِl-marfūʿithe exalted. ﴿٥﴾
[52:6] The sea that is set aflame.
وَٱلْبَحْرِwal-baḥriBy the seaٱلْمَسْجُورِl-masjūri[the] filled with fuel / aflame. ﴿٦﴾
[52:7] Your Lord's requital is unavoidable.
إِنَّinnaIndeed,عَذَابَʿadhāba(the) punishment / requitalرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordلَوَٰقِعٌlawāqiʿun(will) surely occur / unavoidable. ﴿٧﴾
[52:8] No force in the universe can stop it.
مَّاmāNotلَهُۥlahufor itمِنminanyدَافِعٍdāfiʿinaverter. ﴿٨﴾
[52:9] The day will come when the sky will violently thunder.
يَوْمَyawma(On the) Dayتَمُورُtamūru[it] will shakeٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe heavenمَوْرًاmawran(with violent) shake. ﴿٩﴾
[52:10] The mountains will be wiped out.
وَتَسِيرُwatasīruAnd [it] will move away,ٱلْجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountainsسَيْرًاsayran(with an awful) movement. ﴿١٠﴾
[52:11] Woe on that day to the disbelievers -
فَوَيْلٌfawaylunThen woe,يَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Day,لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers / disbelievers. ﴿١١﴾
[52:12] who are in their blundering, heedless.
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThe ones whoهُمْhumtheyفِىfīinخَوْضٍkhawḍinvain talk / blunderيَلْعَبُونَyalʿabūna[they] (are) playing. ﴿١٢﴾
[52:13] They will be herded into Gehenna, forcibly.
يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayيُدَعُّونَyudaʿʿūnathey will be thrust / pushedإِلَىٰilāintoنَارِnāri(the) Fire (of)جَهَنَّمَjahannamaGehennaدَعًّاdaʿʿan(with) a thrust. ﴿١٣﴾
[52:14] This is the Fire in which you used to disbelieve.
هَـٰذِهِhādhihi"This (is)ٱلنَّارُl-nāruthe Fireٱلَّتِىallatīwhichكُنتُمkuntumyou [all] used toبِهَاbihāof itتُكَذِّبُونَtukadhibūna[you all] deny. ﴿١٤﴾
[52:15] Is this magic, or do you not see?
أَفَسِحْرٌafasiḥ'run Then is magicهَـٰذَآhādhāthisأَمْamor doأَنتُمْantumyou [all]لَاlānotتُبْصِرُونَtub'ṣirūna[you all] see? ﴿١٥﴾
[52:16] Suffer the burning. Whether you are patient or impatient, it will be the same for you. This is the just requital for what you did.
ٱصْلَوْهَاiṣ'lawhāBurn therein [you all].فَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟fa-iṣ'birūThen be patient [you all]أَوْaworلَاlānotتَصْبِرُوا۟taṣbirūyou [all] be patient,سَوَآءٌsawāonit is sameعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumfor you [all].إِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyتُجْزَوْنَtuj'zawnayou [all] will be requitedمَاmā(for) whatكُنتُمْkuntumyou [all] used toتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūna[you all] do." ﴿١٦﴾
[52:17] The righteous have deserved gardens and bliss.
إِنَّinnaIndeed,ٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous [ones]فِىfī(will be) inجَنَّـٰتٍjannātingardensوَنَعِيمٍwanaʿīminand pleasure / bliss. ﴿١٧﴾
[52:18] They enjoy what their Lord has reserved for them; their Lord has spared them the retribution of Hell.
فَـٰكِهِينَfākihīnaOnes enjoyingبِمَآbimāin whatءَاتَىٰهُمْātāhum[He] gave themرَبُّهُمْrabbuhumtheir Lord,وَوَقَىٰهُمْwawaqāhumand [He] protected / spared themرَبُّهُمْrabbuhumtheir Lordعَذَابَʿadhāba(from the) retribution (of)ٱلْجَحِيمِl-jaḥīmithe Hellfire. ﴿١٨﴾
[52:19] Eat and drink happily, in return for your works.
كُلُوا۟kulū"Eat [you all]وَٱشْرَبُوا۟wa-ish'rabūand drink [you all]هَنِيٓـًٔۢاhanīan(in) satisfactionبِمَاbimāfor whatكُنتُمْkuntumyou [all] used toتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūna[you all] do." ﴿١٩﴾
[52:20] They relax on luxurious furnishings, and we match them with beautiful spouses.
مُتَّكِـِٔينَmuttakiīnaThose reclining / relaxingعَلَىٰʿalāonسُرُرٍsururinthrones / comfortable furnishingsمَّصْفُوفَةٍmaṣfūfatinarranged (matched)وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُمwazawwajnāhumand we (will) pair / marry themبِحُورٍbiḥūrinwith fair ones / beautiful / whitened*عِينٍʿīninlovely / wide-eyed / large eyes (*beautiful spouses). ﴿٢٠﴾
[52:21] For those who believed, and their children also followed them in belief, we will have their children join them. We never fail to reward them for any work. Every person is paid for what he did.
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanū[they] believedوَٱتَّبَعَتْهُمْwa-ittabaʿathumand [it] followed themذُرِّيَّتُهُمdhurriyyatuhumtheir childrenبِإِيمَـٰنٍbiīmāninin faith,أَلْحَقْنَاalḥaqnāwe (will) joinبِهِمْbihimwith themذُرِّيَّتَهُمْdhurriyyatahumtheir childrenوَمَآwamāand notأَلَتْنَـٰهُمalatnāhumwe (will) deprive themمِّنْminofعَمَلِهِمʿamalihimtheir deed(s) / work(s)مِّنmin(in) anyشَىْءٍshayinthing.كُلُّkulluEveryٱمْرِئٍۭim'ri-inpersonبِمَاbimāfor whatكَسَبَkasabahe earnedرَهِينٌrahīnun(is) pledged / bound / paid. ﴿٢١﴾
[52:22] We will supply them with fruits and meats that they love.
وَأَمْدَدْنَـٰهُمwa-amdadnāhumAnd we (will) supply / provide themبِفَـٰكِهَةٍbifākihatinwith fruitsوَلَحْمٍwalaḥminand meatمِّمَّاmimmāof whatيَشْتَهُونَyashtahūnathey desire. ﴿٢٢﴾
[52:23] They will enjoy drinks that are never polluted, and never sinful to drink.
يَتَنَـٰزَعُونَyatanāzaʿūnaThey will pass to one anotherفِيهَاfīhāthereinكَأْسًاkasana cup,لَّاlānoلَغْوٌlaghwunnonsense / vain talk (polluted)فِيهَاfīhāthereinوَلَاwalāand notتَأْثِيمٌtathīmunsinful. ﴿٢٣﴾
[52:24] Serving them will be servants like protected pearls.
وَيَطُوفُwayaṭūfuAnd it will be circulated / servedعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimamong themغِلْمَانٌghil'mānunservants لَّهُمْlahumfor them,كَأَنَّهُمْka-annahumas if they wereلُؤْلُؤٌlu'lu-onpearlsمَّكْنُونٌmaknūnunones well-protected. ﴿٢٤﴾
[52:25] They will meet each other and reminisce among themselves.
وَأَقْبَلَwa-aqbalaAnd [he] (will) approachبَعْضُهُمْbaʿḍuhumsome of themعَلَىٰʿalātoبَعْضٍbaʿḍinsome othersيَتَسَآءَلُونَyatasāalūnathey will ask one another. ﴿٢٥﴾
[52:26] They will say, "We used to be kind and humble among our people.
قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said,إِنَّاinnā"Indeed, [we]كُنَّاkunnāwe wereقَبْلُqablubeforeفِىٓfīamongأَهْلِنَاahlināour families / peopleمُشْفِقِينَmush'fiqīna[ones] fearful / humble. ﴿٢٦﴾
[52:27] "GOD has blessed us, and has spared us the agony of ill winds.
فَمَنَّfamanna "But [He] conferred favor / blessedٱللَّهُl-lahuGodعَلَيْنَاʿalaynāupon us,وَوَقَىٰنَاwawaqānāand He protected usعَذَابَʿadhāba(from the) punishment / agony (of)ٱلسَّمُومِl-samūmithe blazing / ill winds. ﴿٢٧﴾
[52:28] "We used to implore Him; He is the Most Kind, Most Merciful."
إِنَّاinnā"Indeed, [we]كُنَّاkunnāwe used toمِنminfromقَبْلُqablubeforeنَدْعُوهُnadʿūhu[we] call / implore Him.إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, [He]هُوَhuwaHe (is)ٱلْبَرُّl-baruthe Beneficent / Most Kind,ٱلرَّحِيمُl-raḥīmuMost Merciful." ﴿٢٨﴾
The Messenger
[52:29] You shall remind the people. With your Lord's blessings upon you, you are neither a soothsayer, nor crazy.
فَذَكِّرْfadhakkirSo remind,فَمَآfamāfor notأَنتَantayou (are)بِنِعْمَتِbiniʿ'matiwith (the) favors / blessings (of)رَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordبِكَاهِنٍbikāhininever a soothsayer,وَلَاwalāand notمَجْنُونٍmajnūninone who is crazy. ﴿٢٩﴾
[52:30] They may say, "He is a poet; let us just wait until he is dead."
أَمْamOr doيَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey say,شَاعِرٌshāʿirun"A poet,نَّتَرَبَّصُnatarabbaṣuwe will awaitبِهِۦbihifor himرَيْبَraybadoubt / suspicion / misgiving (of)*ٱلْمَنُونِl-manūni[the] fate / ending / death (*vicissitude of fate)." ﴿٣٠﴾
[52:31] Say, "Go on waiting; I will wait along with you."
قُلْqulSay,تَرَبَّصُوا۟tarabbaṣū"You [all] wait,فَإِنِّىfa-innīfor indeed I am,مَعَكُمmaʿakumwith you [all],مِّنَminaamongٱلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَl-mutarabiṣīnathose who wait." ﴿٣١﴾
[52:32] Is it their dreams that dictate their behavior, or are they naturally wicked?
أَمْamOr doesتَأْمُرُهُمْtamuruhum[it] command themأَحْلَـٰمُهُمaḥlāmuhumtheir [confused] dreamsبِهَـٰذَآbihādhā[in] this,أَمْamor areهُمْhumtheyقَوْمٌqawmuna peopleطَاغُونَṭāghūnatransgressors / wicked [ones]? ﴿٣٢﴾
[52:33] Do they say, "He made it all up?" Instead, they are simply disbelievers.
أَمْamOr doيَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey say,تَقَوَّلَهُۥtaqawwalahu"He fabricated it / made it up"بَلbalNay,لَّاlānotيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believe. ﴿٣٣﴾
"Mohammedans" Challenge God and Produce Hadith
[52:34] Let them produce a Hadith like this, if they are truthful.
فَلْيَأْتُوا۟falyatūThen let them bringبِحَدِيثٍbiḥadīthinin a Hadithمِّثْلِهِۦٓmith'lihilike it,إِنinifكَانُوا۟kānūthey wereصَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful [ones]. ﴿٣٤﴾
[52:35] Were they created from nothing? Are they the creators?
أَمْamOr haveخُلِقُوا۟khuliqūthey been createdمِنْminfromغَيْرِghayri not*شَىْءٍshayina thing (*nothing)أَمْamor areهُمُhumutheyٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَl-khāliqūnathe creators? ﴿٣٥﴾
[52:36] Did they create the heavens and the earth? Indeed, they have no certainty.
أَمْamOr haveخَلَقُوا۟khalaqūthey createdٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earth?بَلbalNay,لَّاlānotيُوقِنُونَyūqinūnathey are certain. ﴿٣٦﴾
[52:37] Do they possess the treasures of your Lord? Are they in control?
أَمْamOr isعِندَهُمْʿindahumwith themخَزَآئِنُkhazāinutreasuresرَبِّكَrabbika(from) your Lordأَمْamor areهُمُhumutheyٱلْمُصَۣيْطِرُونَl-muṣayṭirūnathe controllers? ﴿٣٧﴾
[52:38] Do they climb a ladder that enables them to listen? Let their listeners show their proof.
أَمْamOr isلَهُمْlahumfor themسُلَّمٌsullamuna stairway / ladder,يَسْتَمِعُونَyastamiʿūnathey listenفِيهِfīhitherewith?فَلْيَأْتِfalyatiThen let him bring,مُسْتَمِعُهُمmus'tamiʿuhumtheir listener,بِسُلْطَـٰنٍbisul'ṭāninwith an authorityمُّبِينٍmubīninclear. ﴿٣٨﴾
[52:39] Does He have daughters, while you have sons?
أَمْamOr areلَهُlahufor Himٱلْبَنَـٰتُl-banātuthe daughtersوَلَكُمُwalakumuwhile for you [all] (are)ٱلْبَنُونَl-banūnathe sons? ﴿٣٩﴾
[52:40] Are you asking them for any wage, and they are burdened thereby?
أَمْamOr doتَسْـَٔلُهُمْtasaluhumyou ask (from) themأَجْرًاajrana payment / wage,فَهُمfahumso they (are)مِّنminfromمَّغْرَمٍmaghramina debtمُّثْقَلُونَmuth'qalūna[ones] burdened. ﴿٤٠﴾
[52:41] Do they know the future, and have it recorded?
أَمْamOr isعِندَهُمُʿindahumuwith themٱلْغَيْبُl-ghaybuthe unseen / future,فَهُمْfahumso theyيَكْتُبُونَyaktubūna[they] write (it down)? ﴿٤١﴾
[52:42] Are they plotting and scheming? The disbelievers' schemes backfire against them.
أَمْamOr doيُرِيدُونَyurīdūnathey intendكَيْدًاkaydana plot / scheme?فَٱلَّذِينَfa-alladhīnaBut those whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarū[they] disbelieved,هُمُhumuthey (are)ٱلْمَكِيدُونَl-makīdūnathose caught in a trick / entrapped / schemed against. ﴿٤٢﴾
[52:43] Do they have another god besides GOD? GOD be glorified, far above having partners.
أَمْamOr isلَهُمْlahumfor themإِلَـٰهٌilāhuna godغَيْرُghayruother thanٱللَّهِl-lahiGod?سُبْحَـٰنَsub'ḥānaGlory beٱللَّهِl-lahi(to) Godعَمَّاʿammāfrom whatيُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūnathey associate (with Him). ﴿٤٣﴾
[52:44] When they see masses falling from the sky, they will say, "Piled clouds!"
وَإِنwa-inAnd ifيَرَوْا۟yarawthey (were to) seeكِسْفًاkis'fana portion / massesمِّنَminafromٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe skyسَاقِطًاsāqiṭanfalling / dropping / collapsing,يَقُولُوا۟yaqūlūthey will say,سَحَابٌsaḥābun"Cloudsمَّرْكُومٌmarkūmunpiled up." ﴿٤٤﴾
[52:45] Disregard them until they meet the day in which they are struck.
فَذَرْهُمْfadharhumSo leave themحَتَّىٰḥattāuntilيُلَـٰقُوا۟yulāqūthey meetيَوْمَهُمُyawmahumutheir dayٱلَّذِىalladhīwhichفِيهِfīhiin itيُصْعَقُونَyuṣ'ʿaqūnathey will be struck. ﴿٤٥﴾
[52:46] On that day, their schemes will not protect them, nor will they be helped.
يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayلَاlānotيُغْنِىyugh'nīit will avail / protectعَنْهُمْʿanhumfor themكَيْدُهُمْkayduhumtheir plotting / schemingشَيْـًٔاshayan(in) anything,وَلَاwalāand notهُمْhumtheyيُنصَرُونَyunṣarūna[they] will be helped. ﴿٤٦﴾
[52:47] Those who transgress suffer retribution here, but most of them do not know.
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed,لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those whoظَلَمُوا۟ẓalamū[they] did wrong / transgressedعَذَابًاʿadhāban(is) a retributionدُونَdūnabeforeذَٰلِكَdhālikathat,وَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabutأَكْثَرَهُمْaktharahummost of themلَاlānotيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūna[they] know. ﴿٤٧﴾
[52:48] You shall steadfastly persevere in carrying out your Lord's command - you are in our eyes - and glorify and praise your Lord when you get up.
وَٱصْبِرْwa-iṣ'birSo be patient,لِحُكْمِliḥuk'mifor (the) commandرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord,فَإِنَّكَfa-innakafor indeed, you (are)بِأَعْيُنِنَاbi-aʿyunināin our eyes.وَسَبِّحْwasabbiḥAnd glorify,بِحَمْدِbiḥamdiin praise (of)رَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordحِينَḥīnawhenتَقُومُtaqūmuyou stand up / get up, ﴿٤٨﴾
[52:49] Also during the night glorify Him, and at dawn as the stars fade away.
وَمِنَwaminaAnd fromٱلَّيْلِal-laylithe night,فَسَبِّحْهُfasabbiḥ'huso glorify Him,وَإِدْبَـٰرَwa-id'bārawhile [it] turned back (faded away)ٱلنُّجُومِl-nujūmithe stars. ﴿٤٩﴾
