Sura 51: Al-Dhãreyãt (Driver of the Winds) الذاريات

Sura 51 - Al-Dhãreyãt
In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) nameٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God,ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāniMost Gracious,ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmiMost Merciful.
[51:1] The blowing winds.
وَٱلذَّٰرِيَـٰتِwal-dhāriyātiBy those raising winds / blowing winds,ذَرْوًاdharwandispersing / scattering. ﴿١﴾
[51:2] Bearing rain.
فَٱلْحَـٰمِلَـٰتِfal-ḥāmilātiAnd those carryingوِقْرًاwiq'ranheaviness (rain). ﴿٢﴾
[51:3] Bringing provisions.
فَٱلْجَـٰرِيَـٰتِfal-jāriyātiAnd those sailing / runningيُسْرًاyus'ran(with) ease / gains / prosper. ﴿٣﴾
[51:4] Distributing them as commanded.
فَٱلْمُقَسِّمَـٰتِfal-muqasimātiAnd the distributors (of)أَمْرًاamrancommand. ﴿٤﴾
[51:5] What is promised to you will surely come to pass.
إِنَّمَاinnamāIndeed, whatتُوعَدُونَtūʿadūnayou [all] are promised (is)لَصَادِقٌlaṣādiqunsurely true / confirmed. ﴿٥﴾
[51:6] The Day of Judgment is inevitable.
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed,ٱلدِّينَl-dīnathe Judgmentلَوَٰقِعٌlawāqiʿun(is) surely to occur / inevitable. ﴿٦﴾
[51:7] Despite the perfectly created sky.
وَٱلسَّمَآءِwal-samāiAnd the heavenذَاتِdhāti[it] possessingٱلْحُبُكِl-ḥubukithe pathways / trails of stars / orbits. ﴿٧﴾
[51:8] You continue to dispute the truth.
إِنَّكُمْinnakumIndeed, you [all] (are)لَفِىlafīsurely inقَوْلٍqawlina speechمُّخْتَلِفٍmukh'talifindiffering / disputing. ﴿٨﴾
[51:9] Deviating therefrom are the deviators.
يُؤْفَكُyu'fakuHe (who) turns away / deviatesعَنْهُʿanhufrom it (is)مَنْman(he) whoأُفِكَufika[he] was deluded / deviators. ﴿٩﴾
[51:10] Woe to the falsifiers.
قُتِلَqutilaWoe toٱلْخَرَّٰصُونَl-kharāṣūnathe falsifiers / speculators. ﴿١٠﴾
[51:11] In their blundering, they are totally heedless.
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoهُمْhumthey (are)فِىinغَمْرَةٍghamratinconfusion / flood (of)سَاهُونَsāhūnaheedless [ones]. ﴿١١﴾
[51:12] They question the Day of Judgment.
يَسْـَٔلُونَyasalūnaThey ask (questions)أَيَّانَayyāna"When (is)يَوْمُyawmu(the) Day (of)ٱلدِّينِl-dīni[the] Judgment?" ﴿١٢﴾
[51:13] The day they are presented to the fire.
يَوْمَyawmaA Day,هُمْhumtheyعَلَىʿalāoverٱلنَّارِl-nārithe Fireيُفْتَنُونَyuf'tanūna[they] will be tested / put on trial, ﴿١٣﴾
[51:14] Taste the retribution; this is what you used to challenge.
ذُوقُوا۟dhūqū"Taste [you all]فِتْنَتَكُمْfit'natakumyour trial / retribution.هَـٰذَاhādhāThis (is)ٱلَّذِىalladhīthat whichكُنتُمkuntumyou [all] wereبِهِۦbihiin itتَسْتَعْجِلُونَtastaʿjilūna[you all] seek to challenge / hasten." ﴿١٤﴾
[51:15] The righteous have deserved gardens and springs.
إِنَّinnaIndeed,ٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous [ones]فِى(will be) inجَنَّـٰتٍjannātingardensوَعُيُونٍwaʿuyūninand springs. ﴿١٥﴾
[51:16] They receive their Lord's rewards, for they used to be pious.
ءَاخِذِينَākhidhīnaOnes takingمَآwhatءَاتَىٰهُمْātāhum[He] gave themرَبُّهُمْrabbuhumtheir Lord.إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, theyكَانُوا۟kānū[they] wereقَبْلَqablabeforeذَٰلِكَdhālikathatمُحْسِنِينَmuḥ'sinīnagood-doers / pious [ones]. ﴿١٦﴾
[51:17] Rarely did they sleep the whole night.
كَانُوا۟kānūThey used toقَلِيلًاqalīlanlittleمِّنَminaofٱلَّيْلِal-laylithe nightمَاthatيَهْجَعُونَyahjaʿūna[they] sleep. ﴿١٧﴾
[51:18] At dawn, they prayed for forgiveness.
وَبِٱلْأَسْحَارِwabil-asḥāriAnd in the dawnهُمْhumtheyيَسْتَغْفِرُونَyastaghfirūna[they] ask forgiveness. ﴿١٨﴾
[51:19] A portion of their money was set aside for the beggar and the needy.
وَفِىٓwafīAnd inأَمْوَٰلِهِمْamwālihimtheir wealth / moneyحَقٌّḥaqqun(the) right / dueلِّلسَّآئِلِlilssāilifor the one who asks / beggarوَٱلْمَحْرُومِwal-maḥrūmiand the needy / deprived. ﴿١٩﴾
[51:20] The earth is full of signs for those who are certain.
وَفِىwafīAnd inٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth (are)ءَايَـٰتٌāyātunsignsلِّلْمُوقِنِينَlil'mūqinīnafor those who are certain. ﴿٢٠﴾
[51:21] And within yourselves; can you see?
وَفِىٓwafīAnd inأَنفُسِكُمْanfusikumyourselves.أَفَلَاafalāThen will notتُبْصِرُونَtub'ṣirūnayou [all] see? ﴿٢١﴾
[51:22] In the heaven is your provision, and everything that is promised to you.
وَفِىwafīAnd inٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heaven (is)رِزْقُكُمْriz'qukumyour provisionوَمَاwamāand whatتُوعَدُونَtūʿadūnayou [all] are promised. ﴿٢٢﴾
[51:23] By the Lord of the heaven and the earth, this is as true as the fact that you speak.
فَوَرَبِّfawarabbiThen by (the) Lord (of)ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heavenوَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth,إِنَّهُۥinnahuindeed, it (is)لَحَقٌّlaḥaqqunsurely (the) truthمِّثْلَmith'la(just as) likeمَآthatأَنَّكُمْannakum[that] you [all]تَنطِقُونَtanṭiqūna[you all] speak. ﴿٢٣﴾
[51:24] Have you noted the history of Abraham's honorable guests?
هَلْhalHasأَتَىٰكَatāka[it] came to youحَدِيثُḥadīthu(the) history (of)ضَيْفِḍayfi(the) guests (of)إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīmaAbrahamٱلْمُكْرَمِينَl-muk'ramīnathe honored [ones]? ﴿٢٤﴾
[51:25] They visited him, saying, "Peace." He said, "Peace to you, strangers!"
إِذْidhWhenدَخَلُوا۟dakhalūthey enteredعَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon it,فَقَالُوا۟faqālūand [they] said,سَلَـٰمًاsalāman"Peace."قَالَqālaHe said,سَلَـٰمٌsalāmun"Peace,قَوْمٌqawmuna peopleمُّنكَرُونَmunkarūnathose who are not recognized / unknown (strangers)." ﴿٢٥﴾
[51:26] He asked his family to prepare a fat calf.
فَرَاغَfarāghaThen he turnedإِلَىٰٓilātoأَهْلِهِۦahlihihis householdفَجَآءَfajāaand he cameبِعِجْلٍbiʿij'linwith a calfسَمِينٍsamīninfat. ﴿٢٦﴾
[51:27] When he offered it to them, he remarked, "Do you not eat?"
فَقَرَّبَهُۥٓfaqarrabahuAnd he placed it nearإِلَيْهِمْilayhimto them,قَالَqālahe said,أَلَاalā"Do notتَأْكُلُونَtakulūnayou [all] eat?" ﴿٢٧﴾
[51:28] He harbored fear of them. They said, "Have no fear," and they gave good news of a knowledgeable son.
فَأَوْجَسَfa-awjasaThen he felt / harboredمِنْهُمْmin'humfrom themخِيفَةًkhīfatana apprehension / suspicion / fear.قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,لَا"Notتَخَفْtakhafyou fear,"وَبَشَّرُوهُwabasharūhuand they gave him good newsبِغُلَـٰمٍbighulāminof a sonعَلِيمٍʿalīminlearned / knowledgeable. ﴿٢٨﴾
[51:29] His wife was astonished. Noting her wrinkled face: "I am a sterile old woman."
فَأَقْبَلَتِfa-aqbalatiThen [she] came forwardٱمْرَأَتُهُۥim'ra-atuhuhis wifeفِىwithصَرَّةٍṣarratingroaning / extremely embarrassed / astonished,فَصَكَّتْfaṣakkatand she struck / slappedوَجْهَهَاwajhahāher faceوَقَالَتْwaqālatand she said,عَجُوزٌʿajūzun"(I am) an old womanعَقِيمٌʿaqīmunbarren / sterile!" ﴿٢٩﴾
[51:30] They said, "Thus said your Lord. He is the Most Wise, the Omniscient."
قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,كَذَٰلِكِkadhāliki"Thusقَالَqāla[He] saidرَبُّكِrabbukiyour Lord.إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, [He]هُوَhuwaHe (is)ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuMost Wise,ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe Omniscient." ﴿٣٠﴾
[51:31] He said, "What are you up to, O messengers?"
قَالَqālaHe said,فَمَاfamā"Then what (is)خَطْبُكُمْkhaṭbukumyour declaration / matter / mission,أَيُّهَاayyuhāOٱلْمُرْسَلُونَl-mur'salūna[the] messengers?" ﴿٣١﴾
[51:32] They said, "We have been dispatched to criminal people.
قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey said,إِنَّآinnā"Indeed, [we]أُرْسِلْنَآur'sil'nāwe were sentإِلَىٰilātoقَوْمٍqawmina peopleمُّجْرِمِينَmuj'rimīnacriminals. ﴿٣٢﴾
[51:33] "We will shower them with rocks of clay.
لِنُرْسِلَlinur'sila"That we may send downعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimupon themحِجَارَةًḥijāratanrocksمِّنminofطِينٍṭīninclay. ﴿٣٣﴾
[51:34] "Marked by your Lord for the transgressors."
مُّسَوَّمَةًmusawwamatan"Markedعِندَʿindabyرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordلِلْمُسْرِفِينَlil'mus'rifīnafor the transgressors." ﴿٣٤﴾
[51:35] We then delivered all the believers.
فَأَخْرَجْنَاfa-akhrajnāThen we brought outمَنman(those) whoكَانَkānawereفِيهَاfīhāthereinمِنَminaofٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers. ﴿٣٥﴾
[51:36] We did not find in it except one house of submitters.
فَمَاfamāBut notوَجَدْنَاwajadnāwe foundفِيهَاfīhāthereinغَيْرَghayraother thanبَيْتٍbaytina houseمِّنَminaofٱلْمُسْلِمِينَl-mus'limīnathe submitters. ﴿٣٦﴾
[51:37] We set it up as a lesson for those who fear the painful retribution.
وَتَرَكْنَاwataraknāAnd we leftفِيهَآfīhāthereinءَايَةًāyatana sign / lessonلِّلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those whoيَخَافُونَyakhāfūnathey fearٱلْعَذَابَl-ʿadhābathe retributionٱلْأَلِيمَl-alīmathe painful. ﴿٣٧﴾
[51:38] In Moses (there is a lesson). We sent him to Pharaoh with manifest signs.
وَفِىwafīAnd inمُوسَىٰٓmūsāMoses,إِذْidhwhenأَرْسَلْنَـٰهُarsalnāhuwe sent himإِلَىٰilātoفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaPharaohبِسُلْطَـٰنٍbisul'ṭāninwith an authorityمُّبِينٍmubīninclear / manifest. ﴿٣٨﴾
[51:39] But he turned away, in arrogance, and said, "Magician, or crazy."
فَتَوَلَّىٰfatawallāBut he turned awayبِرُكْنِهِۦbiruk'nihiwith his arrogance / mightوَقَالَwaqālaand he said,سَـٰحِرٌsāḥirun"A magicianأَوْaworمَجْنُونٌmajnūnunone who is crazy." ﴿٣٩﴾
[51:40] Consequently, we punished him and his troops. We threw them into the sea, and he is the one to blame.
فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُfa-akhadhnāhuSo we punished himوَجُنُودَهُۥwajunūdahuand his troopsفَنَبَذْنَـٰهُمْfanabadhnāhumand we threw themفِىintoٱلْيَمِّl-yamithe sea,وَهُوَwahuwawhile he (was)مُلِيمٌmulīmunone to blame. ﴿٤٠﴾
[51:41] In 'Ãd (there is a lesson). We sent upon them disastrous wind.
وَفِىwafīAnd inعَادٍʿādinAd,إِذْidhwhenأَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāwe sentعَلَيْهِمُʿalayhimuagainst themٱلرِّيحَl-rīḥathe windٱلْعَقِيمَl-ʿaqīmathe barren / destructive. ﴿٤١﴾
[51:42] Anything that it came upon was utterly destroyed.
مَاNotتَذَرُtadharuit leftمِنminanyشَىْءٍshayinthingأَتَتْatatit cameعَلَيْهِʿalayhiupon it,إِلَّاillābutجَعَلَتْهُjaʿalathuit made itكَٱلرَّمِيمِkal-ramīmilike the dust / ashes (utterly destroyed). ﴿٤٢﴾
[51:43] In Thamûd (there is a lesson). They were told, "Enjoy temporarily."
وَفِىwafīAnd inثَمُودَthamūdaThamud,إِذْidhwhenقِيلَqīlait was saidلَهُمْlahumto them,تَمَتَّعُوا۟tamattaʿū"You [all] enjoyحَتَّىٰḥattātillحِينٍḥīnina time." ﴿٤٣﴾
[51:44] They rebelled against the command of their Lord. Consequently, the lightning struck them as they looked.
فَعَتَوْا۟faʿatawBut they rebelledعَنْʿanagainstأَمْرِamri(the) commandرَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lord,فَأَخَذَتْهُمُfa-akhadhathumuso [it] struck themٱلصَّـٰعِقَةُl-ṣāʿiqatuthe lightningوَهُمْwahumwhile theyيَنظُرُونَyanẓurūna[they] look. ﴿٤٤﴾
[51:45] They could never get up, nor were they helped.
فَمَاfamāThen notٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟is'taṭāʿūthey were able (to)مِنminofقِيَامٍqiyāminstandingوَمَاwamāand notكَانُوا۟kānūthey wereمُنتَصِرِينَmuntaṣirīnathose helped. ﴿٤٥﴾
[51:46] And the people of Noah before that; they were wicked people.
وَقَوْمَwaqawmaAnd (the) people (of)نُوحٍnūḥinNoahمِّنminfromقَبْلُqablubefore;إِنَّهُمْinnahumindeed, theyكَانُوا۟kānū[they] wereقَوْمًاqawmana peopleفَـٰسِقِينَfāsiqīnadefiantly disobedient / wicked [ones]. ﴿٤٦﴾
"Expansion of the Universe Theory" Confirmed
[51:47] We constructed the sky with our hands, and we will continue to expand it.
وَٱلسَّمَآءَwal-samāaAnd the heavenبَنَيْنَـٰهَاbanaynāhāwe constructed itبِأَيْي۟دٍbi-aydinwith (our) hands,وَإِنَّاwa-innāand indeed, we (are)لَمُوسِعُونَlamūsiʿūnasurely (its) expanders. ﴿٤٧﴾
[51:48] And we made the earth habitable; a perfect design.
وَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaAnd the earth,فَرَشْنَـٰهَاfarashnāhāwe spread / furnished it (*made it habitable);فَنِعْمَfaniʿ'mathen excellent / best (are)ٱلْمَـٰهِدُونَl-māhidūnathe spreaders (*ones who spreads a bed / couch / makes comfortable)! ﴿٤٨﴾
[51:49] We created a pair (male and female) of everything, that you may take heed.
وَمِنwaminAnd ofكُلِّkullieveryشَىْءٍshayinthingخَلَقْنَاkhalaqnāwe createdزَوْجَيْنِzawjaynipairs,لَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you [all] mayتَذَكَّرُونَtadhakkarūna[you all] take heed. ﴿٤٩﴾
[51:50] You shall escape to GOD. I am sent by Him to you as a manifest warner.
فَفِرُّوٓا۟fafirrūSo flee [you all]إِلَىilātoٱللَّهِl-lahiGod.إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I amلَكُمlakumto you [all]مِّنْهُmin'hufrom Himنَذِيرٌnadhīruna warnerمُّبِينٌmubīnunclear / manifest. ﴿٥٠﴾
[51:51] Do not set up besides GOD any other god. I am sent by Him to you as a manifest warner.
وَلَاwalāAnd (do) notتَجْعَلُوا۟tajʿalūyou [all] makeمَعَmaʿawithٱللَّهِl-lahiGodإِلَـٰهًاilāhangodءَاخَرَākharaanother.إِنِّىinnīIndeed, I amلَكُمlakumto you [all]مِّنْهُmin'hufrom Himنَذِيرٌnadhīruna warnerمُّبِينٌmubīnunclear / manifest. ﴿٥١﴾
[51:52] Consistently, when a messenger went to the previous generations, they said, "Magician," or, "Crazy."
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaLikewiseمَآnotأَتَىatāit cameٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(to) thoseمِنminfromقَبْلِهِمqablihimbefore themمِّنminanyرَّسُولٍrasūlinmessengerإِلَّاillābutقَالُوا۟qālūthey said,سَاحِرٌsāḥirun"A magician"أَوْaworمَجْنُونٌmajnūnun"one who is crazy." ﴿٥٢﴾
[51:53] Did they make an agreement with each other? Indeed, they are transgressors.
أَتَوَاصَوْا۟atawāṣaw Have they joined / colluded (with each other)بِهِۦbihiin it?بَلْbalNay,هُمْhumthey (are)قَوْمٌqawmuna peopleطَاغُونَṭāghūnatransgressors. ﴿٥٣﴾
[51:54] You may disregard them; you cannot be blamed.
فَتَوَلَّʿanhumSo turn awayعَنْهُمْfamāfrom themفَمَآfamāfor notأَنتَbimalūminyou (are)بِمَلُومٍfatawallato be blamed. ﴿٥٤﴾
[51:55] And remind, for the reminder benefits the believers.
وَذَكِّرْwadhakkirAnd remind,فَإِنَّfa-innafor indeed,ٱلذِّكْرَىٰl-dhik'rāthe reminderتَنفَعُtanfaʿuit benefitsٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers. ﴿٥٥﴾
The Purpose of Our Existence
[51:56] I did not create the jinns and the humans except to worship Me alone.
وَمَاwamāAnd notخَلَقْتُkhalaqtuI createdٱلْجِنَّl-jinathe jinnوَٱلْإِنسَwal-insaand the humanإِلَّاillāexceptلِيَعْبُدُونِliyaʿbudūnithat they worship Me. ﴿٥٦﴾
[51:57] I need no provisions from them, nor do I need them to feed Me.
مَآNotأُرِيدُurīduI wantمِنْهُمmin'humfrom themمِّنminanyرِّزْقٍriz'qinprovisionوَمَآwamāand notأُرِيدُurīduI wantأَنanthatيُطْعِمُونِyuṭ'ʿimūnithey feed Me. ﴿٥٧﴾
[51:58] GOD is the Provider, the Possessor of all power, the Supreme.
إِنَّinnaIndeed,ٱللَّهَl-lahaGod,هُوَhuwaHe (is)ٱلرَّزَّاقُl-razāquthe Provider,ذُوdhūPossessor ofٱلْقُوَّةِl-quwatiall powerٱلْمَتِينُl-matīnuthe Formidable / Supreme. ﴿٥٨﴾
[51:59] The transgressors have incurred the same fate as their previous counterparts; they should not challenge.
فَإِنَّfa-innaSo indeed,لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those whoظَلَمُوا۟ẓalamū[they] did wrong / transgressed,ذَنُوبًاdhanūban(is) a sinمِّثْلَmith'lalikeذَنُوبِdhanūbi(the) sins (of)أَصْحَـٰبِهِمْaṣḥābihimtheir companions,فَلَاfalā so notيَسْتَعْجِلُونِyastaʿjilūnithey (shall) seek to hasten / challenge. ﴿٥٩﴾
[51:60] Woe to those who disbelieved from the day that is awaiting them.
فَوَيْلٌfawaylunThen woeلِّلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarū[they] disbelievedمِنminfromيَوْمِهِمُyawmihimutheir dayٱلَّذِىalladhīwhichيُوعَدُونَyūʿadūnathey are promised. ﴿٦٠﴾
