Sura 27: Al-Naml (The Ant) النّمل

Sura 27 - Al-Naml
In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
بِسْمِbis'miIn (the) nameٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God,ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāniMost Gracious,ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmiMost Merciful.
[27:1] T. S.* These (letters) constitute proofs of the Quran; a profound scripture.
طسٓtta-seenT.S.تِلْكَtil'kaThese (letters)ءَايَـٰتُāyātu(are) proofs (of)ٱلْقُرْءَانِl-qur'ānithe Quranوَكِتَابٍwakitābinand a book / scriptureمُّبِينٍmubīninprofound. ﴿١﴾
*27:1 See Appendix 1 for the meaning of these Quranic initials.
[27:2] A beacon, and good news, for the believers.
هُدًىhudanA guidance / beaconوَبُشْرَىٰwabush'rāand good newsلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَlil'mu'minīnafor the believers. ﴿٢﴾
[27:3] Who observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and they are, with regard to the Hereafter, absolutely certain.
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoيُقِيمُونَyuqīmūnathey observeٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe Contact Prayer (Salat)وَيُؤْتُونَwayu'tūnaand they giveٱلزَّكَوٰةَl-zakatathe obligatory charity (Zakat)وَهُمwahumand theyبِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِbil-ākhiratiin the Hereafterهُمْhumtheyيُوقِنُونَyūqinūna[they] are (absolutely) certain. ﴿٣﴾
[27:4] Those who do not believe in the Hereafter, we adorn their works in their eyes. Thus, they continue to blunder.
إِنَّinnaIndeed,ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoلَا(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believeبِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِbil-ākhiratiin the Hereafter,زَيَّنَّاzayyannāwe adornedلَهُمْlahumfor themأَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds / works,فَهُمْfahumso theyيَعْمَهُونَyaʿmahūna[they] wander blindly / blunder. ﴿٤﴾
[27:5] It is these who incur the worst retribution, and in the Hereafter, they will be the worst losers.
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose (are)ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathe ones whomلَهُمْlahumfor them (is)سُوٓءُsūu(the) worstٱلْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābi[the] retributionوَهُمْwahumand theyفِىinٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafterهُمُhumu[they] (will be)ٱلْأَخْسَرُونَl-akhsarūnathe worst losers. ﴿٥﴾
[27:6] Surely, you are receiving the Quran from a Most Wise, Omniscient.
وَإِنَّكَwa-innakaAnd indeed, youلَتُلَقَّىlatulaqqāsurely [you] have receivedٱلْقُرْءَانَl-qur'ānathe QuranمِنminfromلَّدُنْladunaحَكِيمٍḥakīminWise,عَلِيمٍʿalīminOmniscient. ﴿٦﴾
Moses
[27:7] Recall that Moses said to his family, "I see a fire; let me bring you news therefrom, or a torch to warm you."
إِذْidhRecall / whenقَالَqāla[he] saidمُوسَىٰmūsāMosesلِأَهْلِهِۦٓli-ahlihito his family,إِنِّىٓinnī"Indeed, Iءَانَسْتُānastu[I] perceivedنَارًاnārana fire.سَـَٔاتِيكُمsaātīkumI will bring you [all]مِّنْهَاmin'hāfrom itبِخَبَرٍbikhabarinsome newsأَوْaworءَاتِيكُمātīkumI bring you [all]بِشِهَابٍbishihābinwith a torchقَبَسٍqabasinburningلَّعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you [all] mayتَصْطَلُونَtaṣṭalūna[you all] warm yourselves." ﴿٧﴾
[27:8] When he came to it, he was called: "Blessed is the One (who is speaking from) within the fire, and those around it." Glory be to GOD, Lord of the universe.
فَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenجَآءَهَاjāahāhe came / arrived to it,نُودِىَnūdiyahe was calledأَنۢan[that]بُورِكَbūrika"[He] was Blessed,مَنman(the) Oneفِىwithinٱلنَّارِl-nārithe fireوَمَنْwamanand whoeverحَوْلَهَاḥawlahāaround it.وَسُبْحَـٰنَwasub'ḥānaAnd glory beٱللَّهِl-lahi(to) GodرَبِّrabbiLord (of)ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds / universe. ﴿٨﴾
[27:9] "O Moses, this is Me, GOD, the Almighty, Most Wise.
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓyāmūsā"O Moses!إِنَّهُۥٓinnahuIndeed, it (is)أَنَاanāIٱللَّهُl-lahuGod,ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe Almighty,ٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuMost Wise." ﴿٩﴾
[27:10] "Throw down your staff." When he saw it moving like a demon, he turned around and fled. "O Moses, do not be afraid. My messengers shall not fear.
وَأَلْقِwa-alqi"And, throwعَصَاكَʿaṣākayour staff."فَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenرَءَاهَاraāhāhe saw itتَهْتَزُّtahtazzu[it] movingكَأَنَّهَاka-annahāas if it (was)جَآنٌّjānnuna demonوَلَّىٰwallāhe turned backمُدْبِرًاmud'biranretreatingوَلَمْwalamand (did) notيُعَقِّبْyuʿaqqibhe look back.يَـٰمُوسَىٰyāmūsā"O Moses!لَا(Do) notتَخَفْtakhafyou fear.إِنِّىinnīIndeed, [I]لَاnotيَخَافُyakhāfu[he] fearلَدَىَّladayya(in) My presenceٱلْمُرْسَلُونَl-mur'salūnathe messengers. ﴿١٠﴾
[27:11] "Except those who commit a transgression, then substitute righteousness after sinning; I am Forgiving, Most Merciful.
إِلَّاillā"Exceptمَنmanwhoظَلَمَẓalamahe did wrongثُمَّthummathenبَدَّلَbaddalahe substitutedحُسْنًۢاḥus'nangoodبَعْدَbaʿdaafterسُوٓءٍsūinevil,فَإِنِّىfa-innīthen indeed, I amغَفُورٌghafūrunForgiving,رَّحِيمٌraḥīmunMerciful. ﴿١١﴾
[27:12] "Put your hand in your pocket; it will come out white, without a blemish. These are among nine miracles to Pharaoh and his people, for they are wicked people."
وَأَدْخِلْwa-adkhil"And enterيَدَكَyadakayour handفِىintoجَيْبِكَjaybikayour pocketتَخْرُجْtakhrujit will come outبَيْضَآءَbayḍāawhiteمِنْminfromغَيْرِghayriwithoutسُوٓءٍsūinharm / blemish.فِى(These are) amongتِسْعِtis'ʿinineءَايَـٰتٍāyātinmiraclesإِلَىٰilātoفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaPharaohوَقَوْمِهِۦٓwaqawmihiand his people.إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, [they]كَانُوا۟kānūthey wereقَوْمًاqawmana peopleفَـٰسِقِينَfāsiqīnadefiantly disobedient / wicked [ones] / liars." ﴿١٢﴾
[27:13] When our miracles were presented to them, clear and profound, they said, "This is obviously magic."
فَلَمَّاfalammāBut whenجَآءَتْهُمْjāathum[it] came to themءَايَـٰتُنَاāyātunāour signs / miraclesمُبْصِرَةًmub'ṣiratanvisible / clear and profoundقَالُوا۟qālūthey said,هَـٰذَاhādhā"This (is)سِحْرٌsiḥ'runa magicمُّبِينٌmubīnunobvious / profound." ﴿١٣﴾
[27:14] They rejected them and were utterly convinced of their wrong ways, due to their arrogance. Note the consequences for the evildoers.
وَجَحَدُوا۟wajaḥadūAnd they rejectedبِهَاbihāin them,وَٱسْتَيْقَنَتْهَآwa-is'tayqanathāand [it] sought to convince them*أَنفُسُهُمْanfusuhumthemselves (*they convinced themselves),ظُلْمًاẓul'man(of their) injusticeوَعُلُوًّاwaʿuluwwanand arrogance.فَٱنظُرْfa-unẓurSo seeكَيْفَkayfahowكَانَkānawasعَـٰقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) consequence / end (for)ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَl-muf'sidīnathe corrupters / evildoers. ﴿١٤﴾
David and Solomon
[27:15] We endowed David and Solomon with knowledge, and they said, "Praise GOD for blessing us more than many of His believing servants."
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verily,ءَاتَيْنَاātaynāwe gaveدَاوُۥدَdāwūdaDavidوَسُلَيْمَـٰنَwasulaymānaand Solomonعِلْمًاʿil'manknowledge,وَقَالَاwaqālāand they both said,ٱلْحَمْدُl-ḥamdu"All praise beلِلَّهِlillahito God,ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe One whoفَضَّلَنَاfaḍḍalanāHe favored usعَلَىٰʿalāoverكَثِيرٍkathīrinmanyمِّنْminofعِبَادِهِʿibādihiHis servantsٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers." ﴿١٥﴾
[27:16] Solomon was David's heir. He said, "O people, we have been endowed with understanding the language of the birds, and all kinds of things have been bestowed upon us. This is indeed a real blessing."
وَوَرِثَwawarithaAnd [he] inheritedسُلَيْمَـٰنُsulaymānuSolomonدَاوُۥدَdāwūdaDavid.وَقَالَwaqālaAnd he said,يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhā"Oٱلنَّاسُl-nāsu[the] people!عُلِّمْنَاʿullim'nāWe were taughtمَنطِقَmanṭiqa(the) speech / language (of)ٱلطَّيْرِl-ṭayrithe birds,وَأُوتِينَاwaūtīnāand we were givenمِنminofكُلِّkullieveryشَىْءٍshayinthing.إِنَّinnaIndeed,هَـٰذَاhādhāthisلَهُوَlahuwasurely it (is)ٱلْفَضْلُl-faḍluthe favor / blessingٱلْمُبِينُl-mubīnu[the] evident / profound." ﴿١٦﴾
[27:17] Mobilized in the service of Solomon were his obedient soldiers of jinns and humans, as well as the birds; all at his disposal.
وَحُشِرَwaḥushiraAnd it was assembled (mobilized)لِسُلَيْمَـٰنَlisulaymānafor Solomonجُنُودُهُۥjunūduhuhis soldiersمِنَminaofٱلْجِنِّl-jinithe jinnوَٱلْإِنسِwal-insiand the men / humansوَٱلطَّيْرِwal-ṭayriand the birds,فَهُمْfahumand theyيُوزَعُونَyūzaʿūna[they] are assembled in rows (*at his disposal). ﴿١٧﴾
[27:18] When they approached the valley of the ants, one ant said, "O you ants, go into your homes, lest you get crushed by Solomon and his soldiers, without perceiving."*
حَتَّىٰٓḥattāUntil,إِذَآidhāwhenأَتَوْا۟atawthey cameعَلَىٰʿalātoوَادِwādi(the) valley (of)ٱلنَّمْلِl-namlithe ants.قَالَتْqālat[She] saidنَمْلَةٌnamlatuna female ant,يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhā"Oٱلنَّمْلُl-namlu[the] ants!ٱدْخُلُوا۟ud'khulūEnter [you all]مَسَـٰكِنَكُمْmasākinakumyour homesلَاnot (lest)يَحْطِمَنَّكُمْyaḥṭimannakum[they] crush you [all]سُلَيْمَـٰنُsulaymānuSolomonوَجُنُودُهُۥwajunūduhuand his soldiersوَهُمْwahumwhile theyلَاnotيَشْعُرُونَyashʿurūna[they] perceive." ﴿١٨﴾
*27:18-19 The more unusual the events in a given sura, the stronger the mathematical evidence supporting them. This helps assure us that such strange phenomena are indicative of God's power. This sura's initials, T.S., constitute a complex part of the mathematical miracles related to the Quranic initials. The unusual birth and miracles of Jesus are in Sura 19, which is prefixed with five Quranic Initials. See Appendix 1 for the details.
[27:19] He smiled and laughed at her statement,* and said, "My Lord, direct me to be appreciative of the blessings You have bestowed upon me and my parents, and to do the righteous works that please You. Admit me by Your mercy into the company of Your righteous servants."
فَتَبَسَّمَfatabassamaSo he smiledضَاحِكًاḍāḥikanlaughingمِّنminatقَوْلِهَاqawlihāher speech / statementوَقَالَwaqālaand he said,رَبِّrabbi"My Lord!أَوْزِعْنِىٓawziʿ'nīGrant me (the ability) / direct meأَنْanthatأَشْكُرَashkuraI may be appreciative (for)نِعْمَتَكَniʿ'matakaYour favors / blessingsٱلَّتِىٓallatīwhichأَنْعَمْتَanʿamtaYou bestowed favor / blessedعَلَىَّʿalayyaupon meوَعَلَىٰwaʿalāand uponوَٰلِدَىَّwālidayyamy parentsوَأَنْwa-anand thatأَعْمَلَaʿmalaI doصَـٰلِحًاṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)تَرْضَىٰهُtarḍāhuYou are pleased with it. وَأَدْخِلْنِىwa-adkhil'nīAnd admit meبِرَحْمَتِكَbiraḥmatikaby Your mercyفِىamongعِبَادِكَʿibādikaYour servantsٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَl-ṣāliḥīna[the] righteous [ones]." ﴿١٩﴾
[27:20] He inspected the birds, and noted: "Why do I not see the hoopoe? Why is he missing?
وَتَفَقَّدَwatafaqqadaAnd he inspected / took inventory / roll call (of)ٱلطَّيْرَl-ṭayrathe birdsفَقَالَfaqālaand he said,مَا"Whatلِىَliyafor me لَآnotأَرَىarāI seeٱلْهُدْهُدَl-hud'hudathe hoopoeأَمْamorكَانَkānahe wasمِنَminafromٱلْغَآئِبِينَl-ghāibīnathe absentees / ones missing? ﴿٢٠﴾
[27:21] "I will punish him severely or sacrifice him, unless he gives me a good excuse."
لَأُعَذِّبَنَّهُۥla-uʿadhibannahu"I will surely punish him (with)عَذَابًاʿadhābana retribution / punishmentشَدِيدًاshadīdansevereأَوْaworلَأَا۟ذْبَحَنَّهُۥٓlaādh'baḥannahuI will surely sacrifice himأَوْawor (unless)لَيَأْتِيَنِّىlayatiyannīsurely he brings meبِسُلْطَـٰنٍbisul'ṭāninof a powerful proofمُّبِينٍmubīninclear (*good excuse)." ﴿٢١﴾
[27:22] He did not wait for long. (The hoopoe) said, "I have news that you do not have. I brought to you from Sheba, some important information.
فَمَكَثَfamakathaSo he stayed / waitedغَيْرَghayranotبَعِيدٍbaʿīdinlong,فَقَالَfaqālaand he said,أَحَطتُaḥaṭtu"I encompassed / knewبِمَاbimāthat whichلَمْlamnotتُحِطْtuḥiṭyou encompass / knowبِهِۦbihiof it,وَجِئْتُكَwaji'tukaand I came to youمِنminfromسَبَإٍۭsaba-inShebaبِنَبَإٍbinaba-inwith newsيَقِينٍyaqīnincertain. ﴿٢٢﴾
[27:23] "I found a woman ruling them, who is blessed with everything, and possesses a tremendous palace.
إِنِّىinnī"Indeed, Iوَجَدتُّwajadttu[I] foundٱمْرَأَةًim'ra-atana womanتَمْلِكُهُمْtamlikuhumshe is ruling themوَأُوتِيَتْwaūtiyatand she was givenمِنminofكُلِّkullieveryشَىْءٍshayinthingوَلَهَاwalahāand for her (is)عَرْشٌʿarshuna throne / palaceعَظِيمٌʿaẓīmungreat / tremendous. ﴿٢٣﴾
[27:24] "I found her and her people prostrating before the sun, instead of GOD. The devil has adorned their works in their eyes, and has repulsed them from the path; consequently, they are not guided."
وَجَدتُّهَاwajadttuhā"And I found herوَقَوْمَهَاwaqawmahāand her peopleيَسْجُدُونَyasjudūna[they] prostrateلِلشَّمْسِlilshamsito the sunمِنmin[from]دُونِdūniinstead ofٱللَّهِl-lahiGod,وَزَيَّنَwazayyanaand [he] adornedلَهُمُlahumufor themٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuthe devilأَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds,فَصَدَّهُمْfaṣaddahumand he averted / repulsed themعَنِʿanifromٱلسَّبِيلِl-sabīlithe path,فَهُمْfahumso theyلَاnotيَهْتَدُونَyahtadūna[they] are guided. ﴿٢٤﴾
[27:25] They should have been prostrating before GOD, the One who manifests all the mysteries in the heavens and the earth, and the One who knows everything you conceal and everything you declare.
أَلَّاallā"That notيَسْجُدُوا۟yasjudūthey prostrateلِلَّهِlillahito God,ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe One whoيُخْرِجُyukh'rijuHe brings out (manifests)ٱلْخَبْءَl-khaba-athe mysteriesفِىinٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthوَيَعْلَمُwayaʿlamuand He knowsمَاwhatتُخْفُونَtukh'fūnayou [all] concealوَمَاwamāand whatتُعْلِنُونَtuʿ'linūnayou [all] declare. ﴿٢٥﴾
[27:26] GOD: there is no other god beside Him; the Lord with the great dominion.
ٱللَّهُal-lahu"Godلَآ(there is) noإِلَـٰهَilāhagodإِلَّاillābutهُوَhuwaHe,رَبُّrabbu(the) Lord (of)ٱلْعَرْشِl-ʿarshithe throne / dominionٱلْعَظِيمِl-ʿaẓīmithe great." ﴿٢٦﴾
[27:27] (Solomon) said, "We will see if you told the truth, or if you are a liar.
قَالَqālaHe said,سَنَنظُرُsananẓuru"We will seeأَصَدَقْتَaṣadaqtawhether you spoke truthأَمْamorكُنتَkuntayou wereمِنَminaofٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَl-kādhibīnathe liars. ﴿٢٧﴾
[27:28] "Take this letter from me, give it to them, then watch for their response."
ٱذْهَبidh'hab"Goبِّكِتَـٰبِىbikitābīwith my letter,هَـٰذَاhādhāthis,فَأَلْقِهْfa-alqihand deliver itإِلَيْهِمْilayhimto them.ثُمَّthummaThenتَوَلَّtawallayou turn awayعَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom themفَٱنظُرْfa-unẓurand seeمَاذَاmādhāwhat then (is it)يَرْجِعُونَyarjiʿūnathey return / respond." ﴿٢٨﴾
Back in Sheba
[27:29] She said, "O my advisers, I have received an honorable letter.
قَالَتْqālatShe said,يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhā"Oٱلْمَلَؤُا۟l-mala-u[the] chiefs / advisers!إِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, [I]أُلْقِىَul'qiyaI receivedإِلَىَّilayyato meكِتَـٰبٌkitābuna letterكَرِيمٌkarīmunnoble / honorable. ﴿٢٩﴾
[27:30] "It is from Solomon, and it is, 'In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.'*
إِنَّهُۥinnahu"Indeed, it (is)مِنminfromسُلَيْمَـٰنَsulaymānaSolomonوَإِنَّهُۥwa-innahuand indeed it (is),بِسْمِbis'mi 'In (the) nameٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) God,ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِl-raḥmāniMost Gracious,ٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmiMost Merciful. ﴿٣٠﴾
*27:30 The 'Basmalah' included in this verse compensates for the 'Basmalah' that is missing from Sura 9, 19 suras earlier. This restores the total occurrence of 'Basmalah' to 114, 19x6. See Appendix 29 for details of a vast and profound miracle attached to this 'Basmalah.'
[27:31] "Proclaiming: 'Do not be arrogant; come to me as submitters.' "
أَلَّاallā" 'Do notتَعْلُوا۟taʿlūyou [all] exalt (yourselves) / be arrogantعَلَىَّʿalayyato meوَأْتُونِىwatūnībut come to me [you all] (as)مُسْلِمِينَmus'limīnasubmitters.' " ﴿٣١﴾
[27:32] She said, "O my advisers, counsel me in this matter. I am not deciding anything until you advise me."
قَالَتْqālatShe said,يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhā"Oٱلْمَلَؤُا۟l-mala-u[the] chiefs / advisers!أَفْتُونِىaftūnīCounsel me [you all]فِىٓinأَمْرِىamrīmy affair.مَاNotكُنتُkuntuI (would) beقَاطِعَةًqāṭiʿatanone who decidesأَمْرًاamranany matter / commandحَتَّىٰḥattāuntilتَشْهَدُونِtashhadūniyou [all] are present to me / advise me." ﴿٣٢﴾
[27:33] They said, "We possess the power, we possess the fighting skills, and the ultimate command is in your hand. You decide what to do."
قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,نَحْنُnaḥnu"We (are)أُو۟لُوا۟ulūthose who possessقُوَّةٍquwwatinstrengthوَأُو۟لُوا۟wa-ulūand those who possessبَأْسٍbasinmightشَدِيدٍshadīdingreat,وَٱلْأَمْرُwal-amruand the commandإِلَيْكِilayki(is up) to you,فَٱنظُرِىfa-unẓurīso lookمَاذَاmādhāwhat then (is it)تَأْمُرِينَtamurīnayou will command." ﴿٣٣﴾
[27:34] She said, "The kings corrupt any land they invade, and subjugate its dignified people. This is what they usually do.
قَالَتْqālatShe said,إِنَّinna"Indeed,ٱلْمُلُوكَl-mulūkathe kings,إِذَاidhāwhenدَخَلُوا۟dakhalūthey enterقَرْيَةًqaryatana townأَفْسَدُوهَاafsadūhāthey destroyed / corrupted itوَجَعَلُوٓا۟wajaʿalūand they madeأَعِزَّةَaʿizzata(the) mighty / dignified (of)أَهْلِهَآahlihāits peopleأَذِلَّةًadhillatanhumiliated / subjected to be low.وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusيَفْعَلُونَyafʿalūnathey do. ﴿٣٤﴾
[27:35] "I am sending a gift to them; let us see what the messengers come back with."
وَإِنِّىwa-innī"But indeed, I amمُرْسِلَةٌmur'silatunsendingإِلَيْهِمilayhimto themبِهَدِيَّةٍbihadiyyatinwith a giftفَنَاظِرَةٌۢfanāẓiratunand seeبِمَbimawith whatيَرْجِعُyarjiʿu[it] will returnٱلْمُرْسَلُونَl-mur'salūnathe messengers." ﴿٣٥﴾
[27:36] When the hoopoe returned to Solomon (he told him the news), and he responded (to Sheba's people): "Are you giving me money? What GOD has given me is far better than what He has given you. You are the ones to rejoice in such gifts."
فَلَمَّاfalammāSo whenجَآءَjāait came / arrivedسُلَيْمَـٰنَsulaymāna(to) Solomonقَالَqālahe said,أَتُمِدُّونَنِatumiddūnani"Are you [all] providing meبِمَالٍbimālinwith wealth?فَمَآfamāBut whatءَاتَىٰنِۦَātāniya[He] gave meٱللَّهُl-lahuGod (is)خَيْرٌkhayrunbetterمِّمَّآmimmāthan whatءَاتَىٰكُمātākumHe gave you [all].بَلْbalNay,أَنتُمantumyou [all]بِهَدِيَّتِكُمْbihadiyyatikumin your giftتَفْرَحُونَtafraḥūna[you all] rejoicing. ﴿٣٦﴾
[27:37] (To the hoopoe, he said,) "Go back to them (and let them know that) we will come to them with forces they cannot imagine. We will evict them, humiliated and debased."
ٱرْجِعْir'jiʿ"Returnإِلَيْهِمْilayhimto them,فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّهُمfalanatiyannahumthen we will surely bring to themبِجُنُودٍbijunūdinwith forcesلَّاnotقِبَلَqibalabeforeلَهُمlahumfor themبِهَاbihāof it,وَلَنُخْرِجَنَّهُمwalanukh'rijannahumand surely we will evict themمِّنْهَآmin'hāfrom itأَذِلَّةًadhillatanhumiliated,وَهُمْwahumand theyصَـٰغِرُونَṣāghirūna[ones] debased." ﴿٣٧﴾
Faster Than the Speed of Light
[27:38] He said, "O you elders, which of you can bring me her mansion, before they arrive here as submitters?"
قَالَqālaHe said,يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhā"Oٱلْمَلَؤُا۟l-mala-u[the] chiefs / elders!أَيُّكُمْayyukumWhich of you [all]يَأْتِينِىyatīnīhe will bring meبِعَرْشِهَاbiʿarshihāof her throne / mansionقَبْلَqablabeforeأَنanthatيَأْتُونِىyatūnīthey come to me (as)مُسْلِمِينَmus'limīnasubmitters?" ﴿٣٨﴾
[27:39] One afrit from the jinns said, "I can bring it to you before you stand up. I am powerful enough to do this."
قَالَqālaHe saidعِفْرِيتٌʿif'rītuna strong one / afritمِّنَminaofٱلْجِنِّl-jinithe jinn,أَنَا۠anā"Iءَاتِيكَātīka[I] will bring to youبِهِۦbihiitقَبْلَqablabeforeأَنan[that]تَقُومَtaqūmayou rise / standمِنminfromمَّقَامِكَmaqāmikayour place.وَإِنِّىwa-innīAnd indeed, I amعَلَيْهِʿalayhifor itلَقَوِىٌّlaqawiyyunsurely strong,أَمِينٌamīnuntrustworthy / honest." ﴿٣٩﴾
[27:40] The one who possessed knowledge from the book said, "I can bring it to you in the blink of your eye." When he saw it settled in front of him, he said, "This is a blessing from my Lord, whereby He tests me, to show whether I am appreciative or unappreciative. Whoever is appreciative is appreciative for his own good, and if one turns unappreciative, then my Lord is in no need for him, Most Honorable."
قَالَqāla[He] saidٱلَّذِىalladhīthe one who,عِندَهُۥʿindahuwith him (was)عِلْمٌʿil'munknowledgeمِّنَminaofٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābithe book,أَنَا۠anā"Iءَاتِيكَātīka [I] will bring to youبِهِۦbihiitقَبْلَqablabeforeأَنanthatيَرْتَدَّyartaddait returnsإِلَيْكَilaykato youطَرْفُكَṭarfukayour glance."فَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenرَءَاهُraāhuhe saw itمُسْتَقِرًّاmus'taqirransettledعِندَهُۥʿindahubefore him,قَالَqālahe said,هَـٰذَاhādhā"This (is)مِنminfromفَضْلِfaḍli(the) favor / blessingرَبِّىrabbī(of) my Lord,لِيَبْلُوَنِىٓliyabluwanīthat He may test me (to see)ءَأَشْكُرُa-ashkuruwhether I am thankful / appreciativeأَمْamorأَكْفُرُakfuruI am unappreciative.وَمَنwamanAnd whoeverشَكَرَshakarahe was appreciativeفَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāthen onlyيَشْكُرُyashkuruhe is appreciativeلِنَفْسِهِۦlinafsihifor his own soul / self.وَمَنwamanAnd whoeverكَفَرَkafarahe was unappreciative,فَإِنَّfa-innathen indeed,رَبِّىrabbīmy Lord (is)غَنِىٌّghaniyyunSelf-Sufficient / Free of need,كَرِيمٌkarīmunNoble / Honorable." ﴿٤٠﴾
[27:41] He said, "Remodel her mansion for her. Let us see if she will be guided, or continue with the misguided."
قَالَqālaHe said,نَكِّرُوا۟nakkirū"Change the structure / Remodel [you all]لَهَاlahāfor herعَرْشَهَاʿarshahā[her] throne / mansion;نَنظُرْnanẓurwe will seeأَتَهْتَدِىٓatahtadīwhether she will be guidedأَمْamorتَكُونُtakūnushe will beمِنَminaofٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoلَاnotيَهْتَدُونَyahtadūna[they] are guided." ﴿٤١﴾
[27:42] When she arrived, she was asked, "Does your mansion look like this?" She said, "It seems that this is it." (Solomon said,) "We knew beforehand what she was going to do, and we were already submitters."
فَلَمَّاfalammāSo whenجَآءَتْjāatshe came / arrived,قِيلَqīlaIt was said,أَهَـٰكَذَاahākadhā"Is like thisعَرْشُكِʿarshukiyour throne / mansion?"قَالَتْqālatShe said,كَأَنَّهُۥka-annahu"As if it (is)هُوَhuwait."وَأُوتِينَاwaūtīnā"And we were givenٱلْعِلْمَl-ʿil'mathe knowledgeمِنminfromقَبْلِهَاqablihābefore herوَكُنَّاwakunnāand we wereمُسْلِمِينَmus'limīnasubmitters." ﴿٤٢﴾
[27:43] She had been diverted by worshiping idols instead of GOD; she belonged to disbelieving people.
وَصَدَّهَاwaṣaddahāAnd it diverted herمَاwhatكَانَتkānatshe used toتَّعْبُدُtaʿbudu[she] worshipمِنminfromدُونِdūnibesidesٱللَّهِl-lahiGod.إِنَّهَاinnahāIndeed, [she]كَانَتْkānatshe wasمِنminfromقَوْمٍqawmina people (of)كَـٰفِرِينَkāfirīnadisbelievers. ﴿٤٣﴾
[27:44] She was told, "Go inside the palace." When she saw its interior, she thought it was a pool of water, and she (pulled up her dress,) exposing her legs. He said, "This interior is now paved with crystal." She said, "My Lord, I have wronged my soul. I now submit with Solomon to GOD, Lord of the universe."
قِيلَqīlaIt was saidلَهَاlahāto her,ٱدْخُلِىud'khulī"Enter / Go insideٱلصَّرْحَl-ṣarḥathe palace."فَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenرَأَتْهُra-athushe saw it,حَسِبَتْهُḥasibathushe thought it (was)لُجَّةًlujjatana pool,وَكَشَفَتْwakashafatand she removed / exposedعَنʿanfromسَاقَيْهَاsāqayhāher shins / legs.قَالَqālaHe said,إِنَّهُۥinnahu"Indeed, it (is)صَرْحٌṣarḥuna palaceمُّمَرَّدٌmumarradunmade smoothمِّنminofقَوَارِيرَqawārīraglass / crystal."قَالَتْqālatShe said,رَبِّrabbi"My Lord,إِنِّىinnīindeed, Iظَلَمْتُẓalamtu[I] wrongedنَفْسِىnafsīmyself / my soul,وَأَسْلَمْتُwa-aslamtuand I have submittedمَعَmaʿawithسُلَيْمَـٰنَsulaymānaSolomonلِلَّهِlillahito God,رَبِّrabbiLord (of)ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds / universe." ﴿٤٤﴾
Sãleh
[27:45] We have sent to Thamûd their brother Sãleh, saying, "You shall worship GOD." But they turned into two feuding factions.
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainly,أَرْسَلْنَآarsalnāwe sentإِلَىٰilātoثَمُودَthamūdaThamudأَخَاهُمْakhāhumtheir brotherصَـٰلِحًاṣāliḥanSalehأَنِanithat,ٱعْبُدُوا۟uʿ'budū"Worship [you all]ٱللَّهَl-lahaGod."فَإِذَاfa-idhāThen behold!هُمْhumThey (became) فَرِيقَانِfarīqānitwo parties / factionsيَخْتَصِمُونَyakhtaṣimūnathey feuding. ﴿٤٥﴾
[27:46] He said, "O my people, why do you hasten to commit evil instead of good works? If only you implore GOD for forgiveness, you may attain mercy."
قَالَqālaHe said,يَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmi"O my people!لِمَlimaWhy (do)تَسْتَعْجِلُونَtastaʿjilūnayou [all] seek to hastenبِٱلسَّيِّئَةِbil-sayi-ati[in] the evilقَبْلَqablabeforeٱلْحَسَنَةِl-ḥasanatithe good?لَوْلَاlawlāWhy notتَسْتَغْفِرُونَtastaghfirūnayou [all] ask forgivenessٱللَّهَl-laha(of) Godلَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you [all] mayتُرْحَمُونَtur'ḥamūna[you all] receive mercy?" ﴿٤٦﴾
[27:47] They said, "We consider you a bad omen for us, you and those who joined you." He said, "Your omen is fully controlled by GOD. Indeed, you are deviant people."
قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,ٱطَّيَّرْنَاiṭṭayyarnā"We ascribed a bad omenبِكَbikain youوَبِمَنwabimanand of thoseمَّعَكَmaʿakawith you."قَالَqālaHe said,طَـٰٓئِرُكُمْṭāirukum"Your fate / omenعِندَʿinda(is determined) byٱللَّهِl-lahiGod.بَلْbalNay,أَنتُمْantumyou [all] (are)قَوْمٌqawmuna peopleتُفْتَنُونَtuf'tanūna[you all] being tested / divisive." ﴿٤٧﴾
[27:48] There were nine gangsters in the city who were wicked, and never did anything good.
وَكَانَwakānaAnd there wasفِىinٱلْمَدِينَةِl-madīnatithe cityتِسْعَةُtis'ʿatunineرَهْطٍrahṭinfamily heads / gangsters,يُفْسِدُونَyuf'sidūnathey were spreading corruption / wickedفِىinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landوَلَاwalāand notيُصْلِحُونَyuṣ'liḥūnathey rectify / promote peace / make good works. ﴿٤٨﴾
[27:49] They said, "Let us swear by GOD that we kill him and his people, then tell his tribe, 'We know nothing about their death. We are truthful.'"
قَالُوا۟qālūThey said,تَقَاسَمُوا۟taqāsamū"You [all] swearبِٱللَّهِbil-lahiby Godلَنُبَيِّتَنَّهُۥlanubayyitannahusurely we will attack him by night,وَأَهْلَهُۥwa-ahlahuand his people.ثُمَّthummaThenلَنَقُولَنَّlanaqūlannasurely we will sayلِوَلِيِّهِۦliwaliyyihito his heir / next of kin,مَا"Notشَهِدْنَاshahid'nāwe witnessedمَهْلِكَmahlika(the) destruction / death (of)أَهْلِهِۦahlihihis people,وَإِنَّاwa-innāand indeed, we (are)لَصَـٰدِقُونَlaṣādiqūnasurely truthful [ones]." ﴿٤٩﴾
God Protects The Believers
[27:50] They plotted and schemed, but we also plotted and schemed, while they did not perceive.
وَمَكَرُوا۟wamakarūSo they plotted مَكْرًاmakrana schemeوَمَكَرْنَاwamakarnāand we plottedمَكْرًاmakrana scheme,وَهُمْwahumwhile theyلَا(did) notيَشْعُرُونَyashʿurūna[they] perceive. ﴿٥٠﴾
[27:51] Note the consequences of their plotting; we annihilated them and all their people.
فَٱنظُرْfa-unẓurThen seeكَيْفَkayfahowكَانَkānawasعَـٰقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) consequence / end (for)مَكْرِهِمْmakrihimtheir scheming,أَنَّاannāthat weدَمَّرْنَـٰهُمْdammarnāhum[we] annihilated themوَقَوْمَهُمْwaqawmahumand their peopleأَجْمَعِينَajmaʿīnaall together. ﴿٥١﴾
[27:52] Here are their homes utterly ruined, because of their transgression. This should be a lesson for people who know.
فَتِلْكَfatil'kaSo, these (are)بُيُوتُهُمْbuyūtuhumtheir houses,خَاوِيَةًۢkhāwiyatanruinedبِمَاbimābecauseظَلَمُوٓا۟ẓalamūthey did wrong / transgressed.إِنَّinnaIndeed,فِىinذَٰلِكَdhālikathatلَـَٔايَةًlaāyatansurely a sign / proof / lessonلِّقَوْمٍliqawminfor a peopleيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnathey know. ﴿٥٢﴾
[27:53] We save those who believe and lead a righteous life.
وَأَنجَيْنَاwa-anjaynāAnd we savedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanūthey believedوَكَانُوا۟wakānūand they wereيَتَّقُونَyattaqūna[they] leading a righteous life. ﴿٥٣﴾
Lot
[27:54] Lot said to his people, "How could you commit such an abomination, publicly, while you see?
وَلُوطًاwalūṭanAnd Lot,إِذْidhwhenقَالَqālahe saidلِقَوْمِهِۦٓliqawmihito his people,أَتَأْتُونَatatūna"Do you [all] commit ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَl-fāḥishata[the] immorality / abominationوَأَنتُمْwa-antumwhile you [all]تُبْصِرُونَtub'ṣirūna[you all] see? ﴿٥٤﴾
[27:55] "You practice sex with the men, lustfully, instead of the women. Indeed, you are ignorant people."
أَئِنَّكُمْa-innakum"Indeed why do you [all]لَتَأْتُونَlatatūnasurely [you all] commit / approach (*have sex)ٱلرِّجَالَl-rijālathe menشَهْوَةًshahwatanlustfullyمِّنminfromدُونِdūniinstead ofٱلنِّسَآءِl-nisāithe women?بَلْbalNay,أَنتُمْantumyou [all] (are)قَوْمٌqawmuna peopleتَجْهَلُونَtajhalūnayou [all] do not know / are ignorant." ﴿٥٥﴾
[27:56] The only response from his people was their saying, "Banish Lot's family from your town; they are people who wish to be pure."
فَمَاfamāBut notكَانَkānawasجَوَابَjawāba(the) answer (of)قَوْمِهِۦٓqawmihihis peopleإِلَّآillāexceptأَنanthatقَالُوٓا۟qālūthey said,أَخْرِجُوٓا۟akhrijū"Banish [you all]ءَالَāla(the) family (of)لُوطٍlūṭinLotمِّنminfromقَرْيَتِكُمْqaryatikumyour town.إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, they (are)أُنَاسٌunāsunpeopleيَتَطَهَّرُونَyataṭahharūnathey keep (themselves) pure." ﴿٥٦﴾
[27:57] Consequently, we saved him and his family, except his wife; we counted her among the doomed.
فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُfa-anjaynāhuSo we saved himوَأَهْلَهُۥٓwa-ahlahuand his family,إِلَّاillāexceptٱمْرَأَتَهُۥim'ra-atahuhis wife;قَدَّرْنَـٰهَاqaddarnāhāwe destined / counted herمِنَminaamongٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَl-ghābirīnathose who remained behind. ﴿٥٧﴾
[27:58] We showered them with a certain shower. It was a miserable shower upon people who had been warned.
وَأَمْطَرْنَاwa-amṭarnāAnd we rained / showeredعَلَيْهِمʿalayhimupon themمَّطَرًاmaṭarana (certain) rain / shower,فَسَآءَfasāaand (was) miserableمَطَرُmaṭaru(the) rain / shower (on)ٱلْمُنذَرِينَl-mundharīnathose who were warned. ﴿٥٨﴾
Make No Distinction Among God's Messengers
[27:59] Say, "Praise be to GOD and peace be upon His servants whom He chose. Is GOD better, or the idols some people set up?"
قُلِquliSay,ٱلْحَمْدُl-ḥamdu"All praise beلِلَّهِlillahito God,وَسَلَـٰمٌwasalāmunand peace (be)عَلَىٰʿalāuponعِبَادِهِʿibādihiHis servantsٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whomٱصْطَفَىٰٓiṣ'ṭafāHe chose.ءَآللَّهُāllahuIs Godخَيْرٌkhayrunbetterأَمَّاammāor whatيُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūnathey associate (with Him)?" ﴿٥٩﴾
God ALONE Worthy of Worship
[27:60] Who is the One who created the heavens and the earth? Who is the One who sends down to you from the sky water, whereby we produce gardens full of beauty - you could not possibly manufacture its trees? Is it another god with GOD? Indeed, they are people who have deviated.
أَمَّنْammanOr whoخَلَقَkhalaqaHe createdٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earthوَأَنزَلَwa-anzalaand He sent downلَكُمlakumfor you [all]مِّنَminafromٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe skyمَآءًmāanwater?فَأَنۢبَتْنَاfa-anbatnāAnd we caused to growبِهِۦbihitherebyحَدَآئِقَḥadāiqaorchards / gardensذَاتَdhātait possessingبَهْجَةٍbahjatinbeauty (and delight) / beautiful plants,مَّاnotكَانَkānathere wereلَكُمْlakumfor you [all]أَنanthatتُنۢبِتُوا۟tunbitūyou [all] cause to growشَجَرَهَآshajarahāits trees.أَءِلَـٰهٌa-ilāhunIs there any godمَّعَmaʿawithٱللَّهِl-lahiGod?بَلْbalNay,هُمْhumthey (are)قَوْمٌqawmuna peopleيَعْدِلُونَyaʿdilūnathey ascribe equals. ﴿٦٠﴾
Jesus, Mary, Muhammad, the Saints, etc. Never Participated
[27:61] Who is the One who made the earth habitable, caused rivers to run through it, placed on it mountains, and created a barrier between the two waters? Is it another god with GOD? Indeed, most of them do not know.
أَمَّنammanOr whoجَعَلَjaʿalaHe madeٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthقَرَارًاqarāranstable and safe / habitableوَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand He made / placed (in)خِلَـٰلَهَآkhilālahāits midst / through itأَنْهَـٰرًاanhāranriversوَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand He made / placedلَهَاlahāfor itرَوَٰسِىَrawāsiyastabilizers (mountains)وَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand He madeبَيْنَbaynabetweenٱلْبَحْرَيْنِl-baḥraynithe two seas / watersحَاجِزًاḥājizana barrier?أَءِلَـٰهٌa-ilāhunIs there any godمَّعَmaʿawithٱللَّهِl-lahiGod?بَلْbalNay,أَكْثَرُهُمْaktharuhummost of themلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūna[they] know. ﴿٦١﴾
[27:62] Who is the One who rescues those who become desperate and call upon Him, relieves adversity, and makes you inheritors of the earth? Is it another god with GOD? Rarely do you take heed.
أَمَّنammanOr whoيُجِيبُyujībuHe responds (rescues)ٱلْمُضْطَرَّl-muḍ'ṭarathe one distressed / constrained / desperateإِذَاidhāwhenدَعَاهُdaʿāhuhe called Himوَيَكْشِفُwayakshifuand He removesٱلسُّوٓءَl-sūathe evil / adversityوَيَجْعَلُكُمْwayajʿalukumand He makes you [all]خُلَفَآءَkhulafāasuccessors / inheritors (of)ٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth?أَءِلَـٰهٌa-ilāhunIs there any godمَّعَmaʿawithٱللَّهِl-lahiGod?قَلِيلًاqalīlanLittle / Rarelyمَّا(is) whatتَذَكَّرُونَtadhakkarūnayou [all] take heed. ﴿٦٢﴾
[27:63] Who is the One who guides you in the darkness of land and sea? Who is the One who sends the winds with good news, signaling His mercy? Is it another god with GOD? Most exalted is GOD, above having any partner.
أَمَّنammanOr whoيَهْدِيكُمْyahdīkumHe guides you [all]فِىinظُلُمَـٰتِẓulumāti(the) darkness (of)ٱلْبَرِّl-barithe landوَٱلْبَحْرِwal-baḥriand the seaوَمَنwamanand whoيُرْسِلُyur'siluHe sendsٱلرِّيَـٰحَl-riyāḥathe windsبُشْرًۢاbush'ran(as) good newsبَيْنَbayna between / before*يَدَىْyadayone's hand (*before)رَحْمَتِهِۦٓraḥmatihiHis mercy?أَءِلَـٰهٌa-ilāhunIs there any godمَّعَmaʿawithٱللَّهِl-lahiGod?تَعَـٰلَىtaʿālāHigh above (all) / Most exaltedٱللَّهُl-lahuGodعَمَّاʿammāabove whatيُشْرِكُونَyush'rikūnathey associate (with Him). ﴿٦٣﴾
[27:64] Who is the One who initiates the creation, then repeats it? Who is the One who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? Is it another god with GOD? Say, "Show me your proof, if you are truthful."
أَمَّنammanOr whoيَبْدَؤُا۟yabda-u[He] initiatesٱلْخَلْقَl-khalqathe creationثُمَّthummathenيُعِيدُهُۥyuʿīduhu[He] repeats itوَمَنwamanand whoيَرْزُقُكُمyarzuqukum[He] provides you [all]مِّنَminafromٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heavenوَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth?أَءِلَـٰهٌa-ilāhunIs there a godمَّعَmaʿawithٱللَّهِl-lahiGod?قُلْqulSay,هَاتُوا۟hātū"Bring forth / Present [you all]بُرْهَـٰنَكُمْbur'hānakumyour proofإِنinifكُنتُمْkuntumyou [all] areصَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful [ones]." ﴿٦٤﴾
[27:65] Say, "No one in the heavens and the earth knows the future except GOD. They do not even perceive how or when they will be resurrected."
قُلqulSay,لَّا"No (one)يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuhe knowsمَنmanwhoeverفِى(is) inٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth (of)ٱلْغَيْبَl-ghaybathe unseen / futureإِلَّاillāexceptٱللَّهُl-lahuGod,وَمَاwamāand notيَشْعُرُونَyashʿurūnathey perceive (how)أَيَّانَayyānawhenيُبْعَثُونَyub'ʿathūnathey will be resurrected." ﴿٦٥﴾
Believing in the Hereafter: Great Obstacle for Most People
[27:66] In fact, their knowledge concerning the Hereafter is confused. In fact, they harbor doubts about it. In fact, they are totally heedless thereof.
بَلِbaliNay,ٱدَّٰرَكَiddārakalimited (is)عِلْمُهُمْʿil'muhumtheir knowledgeفِىofٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafter?بَلْbalNayهُمْhumthey (are)فِىinشَكٍّshakkindoubtمِّنْهَاmin'hāabout it.بَلْbalNay,هُمhumtheyمِّنْهَاmin'hāabout it (are)عَمُونَʿamūnablind / heedless [ones]. ﴿٦٦﴾
[27:67] Those who disbelieved said, "After we turn into dust, and also our parents, do we get brought out?
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd [he] said,ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُوٓا۟kafarūthey disbelieved,أَءِذَاa-idhā"What! Whenكُنَّاkunnāwe becameتُرَٰبًاturābandustوَءَابَآؤُنَآwaābāunāand our forefathers / parents,أَئِنَّاa-innāwill we (be)لَمُخْرَجُونَlamukh'rajūnasurely ones who are brought out (resurrected)? ﴿٦٧﴾
[27:68] "We have been given the same promise in the past. These are nothing but tales from the past."
لَقَدْlaqad"Certainly,وُعِدْنَاwuʿid'nāwe were promisedهَـٰذَاhādhāthis,نَحْنُnaḥnuweوَءَابَآؤُنَاwaābāunāand our forefathers / parentsمِنminfromقَبْلُqablubefore.إِنْinNotهَـٰذَآhādhā(is) thisإِلَّآillāexceptأَسَـٰطِيرُasāṭīrutales (of)ٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīnathe past [ones]." ﴿٦٨﴾
[27:69] Say, "Roam the earth and note the consequences for the guilty."
قُلْqulSay,سِيرُوا۟sīrū"Travel / Roam [you all]فِىinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earth,فَٱنظُرُوا۟fa-unẓurūand see [you all]كَيْفَkayfahowكَانَkānawasعَـٰقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) end / consequence (for)ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَl-muj'rimīnathe guilty ones." ﴿٦٩﴾
[27:70] Do not grieve over them, and do not be annoyed by their scheming.
وَلَاwalāAnd (do) notتَحْزَنْtaḥzan[you] grieveعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimover themوَلَاwalāand notتَكُنtakunyou beفِىinضَيْقٍḍayqinannoyanceمِّمَّاmimmāfrom whatيَمْكُرُونَyamkurūnathey plot / scheme. ﴿٧٠﴾
[27:71] They say, "When will that promise come to pass, if you are truthful?"
وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaAnd they say,مَتَىٰmatā"When (will)هَـٰذَاhādhāthisٱلْوَعْدُl-waʿdu[the] promise (be fulfilled),إِنinifكُنتُمْkuntumyou [all] areصَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful ones?" ﴿٧١﴾
[27:72] Say, "You are already suffering some of the retribution you challenge."
قُلْqulSay,عَسَىٰٓʿasā"Perhapsأَنanthatيَكُونَyakūnait isرَدِفَradifaclose behind / coming in continuous successionلَكُمlakumfor you [all],بَعْضُbaʿḍuportion / some (of)ٱلَّذِىalladhīthat whichتَسْتَعْجِلُونَtastaʿjilūnayou [all] seek to hasten / challenge." ﴿٧٢﴾
[27:73] Your Lord is full of grace towards the people, but most of them are unappreciative.
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed,رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord (is)لَذُوladhūsurely full of فَضْلٍfaḍlinfavor / grace / bountyعَلَىʿalāforٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe people,وَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabutأَكْثَرَهُمْaktharahummost of themلَاnotيَشْكُرُونَyashkurūna[they] are appreciative. ﴿٧٣﴾
[27:74] Your Lord fully knows what their chests hide, and what they declare.
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeed,رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lordلَيَعْلَمُlayaʿlamusurely He knowsمَاwhatتُكِنُّtukinnu[it] conceals / hidesصُدُورُهُمْṣudūruhumtheir chestsوَمَاwamāand whatيُعْلِنُونَyuʿ'linūnathey declare. ﴿٧٤﴾
[27:75] There is nothing in the heavens and the earth that is hidden (from GOD); everything is in a profound record.
وَمَاwamāAnd not (is)مِنْminany (thing)غَآئِبَةٍghāibatinhiddenفِىinٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heavenوَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthإِلَّاillābutفِى(is) inكِتَـٰبٍkitābina recordمُّبِينٍmubīninprofound. ﴿٧٥﴾
[27:76] This Quran settles many issues for the Children of Israel; issues that they are still disputing.
إِنَّinnaIndeed,هَـٰذَاhādhāthisٱلْقُرْءَانَl-qur'āna[the] Quranيَقُصُّyaquṣṣu[He] narrates / settlesعَلَىٰʿalāforبَنِىٓbanī(the) Childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(of) Israel,أَكْثَرَaktharamostٱلَّذِىalladhī(of) whichهُمْhumtheyفِيهِfīhiin itيَخْتَلِفُونَyakhtalifūna[they] differ / dispute. ﴿٧٦﴾
[27:77] And most assuredly, it is a guide and mercy for the believers.
وَإِنَّهُۥwa-innahuAnd indeed it (is)لَهُدًىlahudansurely a guidanceوَرَحْمَةٌwaraḥmatunand a mercyلِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَlil'mu'minīnafor the believers. ﴿٧٧﴾
[27:78] Your Lord is the One who judges among them in accordance with His rules. He is the Almighty, the Omniscient.
إِنَّinnaIndeedرَبَّكَrabbakayour LordيَقْضِىyaqḍīHe will judgeبَيْنَهُمbaynahumbetween themبِحُكْمِهِۦbiḥuk'mihiby His Judgment,وَهُوَwahuwaand He (is)ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe Almighty,ٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe Omniscient. ﴿٧٨﴾
[27:79] Therefore, put your trust in GOD; you are following the manifest truth.
فَتَوَكَّلْfatawakkalSo put (your) trustعَلَىʿalāinٱللَّهِl-lahiGod,إِنَّكَinnakaindeed you (are)عَلَىʿalāonٱلْحَقِّl-ḥaqithe truthٱلْمُبِينِl-mubīni[the] manifest. ﴿٧٩﴾
[27:80] You cannot make the dead, nor the deaf, hear the call, if they turn away.
إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed youلَاnotتُسْمِعُtus'miʿuyou can make hearٱلْمَوْتَىٰl-mawtāthe deadوَلَاwalāand notتُسْمِعُtus'miʿuyou can make hearٱلصُّمَّl-ṣumathe deafٱلدُّعَآءَl-duʿāathe callsإِذَاidhāwhenوَلَّوْا۟wallawthey turned backمُدْبِرِينَmud'birīna[those] retreating. ﴿٨٠﴾
[27:81] Nor can you guide the blind out of their straying. The only ones who will hear you are those who believe in our revelations, and decide to be submitters.
وَمَآwamāAnd not (can)أَنتَantayouبِهَـٰدِىbihādīever guideٱلْعُمْىِl-ʿum'yithe blindعَنʿanfromضَلَـٰلَتِهِمْḍalālatihimtheir error / straying.إِنinNotتُسْمِعُtus'miʿuyou can make hearإِلَّاillāexceptمَنman(those) whoيُؤْمِنُyu'minu[he] believesبِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināin our signs / revelationsفَهُمfahumand they (are)مُّسْلِمُونَmus'limūnasubmitters. ﴿٨١﴾
The Computer Is The Creature*
[27:82] At the right time, we will produce for them a creature, made of earthly materials, declaring that the people are not certain about our revelations.
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when [in the future]وَقَعَwaqaʿa[it] fulfilledٱلْقَوْلُl-qawluthe wordعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimagainst them,أَخْرَجْنَاakhrajnāwe brought out / producedلَهُمْlahumfor themدَآبَّةًdābbatana creatureمِّنَminafromٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthتُكَلِّمُهُمْtukallimuhum[it] will speak to them,أَنَّannathatٱلنَّاسَl-nāsathe peopleكَانُوا۟kānū[they] were,بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināof our signs / revelationsلَاnotيُوقِنُونَyūqinūna[they] are certain. ﴿٨٢﴾
*27:82 (2+7+8+2 = 19) The computer was required to unveil the Quran's mathematical miracle, and it proved that most people have discarded God's message (see Appendices 1 & 19).
[27:83] The day will come when we summon from every community some of those who did not believe in our proofs, forcibly.
وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd (the) dayنَحْشُرُnaḥshuruwe will summonمِنminfromكُلِّkullieveryأُمَّةٍummatincommunityفَوْجًاfawjana group / someمِّمَّنmimmanfrom whoيُكَذِّبُyukadhibu[he] deniesبِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināin our signs / proofs,فَهُمْfahumand theyيُوزَعُونَyūzaʿūna[they] will be assembled in rows / (*forcibly). ﴿٨٣﴾
Study the Quran's Mathematical Code
[27:84] When they arrive, He will say, "You have rejected My revelations, before acquiring knowledge about them. Is this not what you did?"
حَتَّىٰٓḥattāUntil,إِذَاidhāwhen [in the future]جَآءُوjāūthey arrived,قَالَqālaHe said,أَكَذَّبْتُمakadhabtum"Have you [all] denied / rejectedبِـَٔايَـٰتِىbiāyātīof My signs / revelationsوَلَمْwalamwhile notتُحِيطُوا۟tuḥīṭūyou [all] comprehendبِهَاbihāin itعِلْمًاʿil'manknowledge,أَمَّاذَاammādhāor what thenكُنتُمْkuntumyou [all] used toتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūna[you all] do?" ﴿٨٤﴾
[27:85] They will incur the requital for their wickedness; they will say nothing.
وَوَقَعَwawaqaʿaAnd [it] fulfilledٱلْقَوْلُl-qawluthe wordعَلَيْهِمʿalayhimagainst themبِمَاbimābecauseظَلَمُوا۟ẓalamūthey did wrong / transgressed,فَهُمْfahumand theyلَاnotيَنطِقُونَyanṭiqūna[they] speak. ﴿٨٥﴾
[27:86] Have they not seen that we made the night for their rest, and the day lighted? These should be sufficient proofs for people who believe.
أَلَمْalamDo notيَرَوْا۟yarawthey seeأَنَّاannāthat weجَعَلْنَاjaʿalnā[we] madeٱلَّيْلَal-laylathe nightلِيَسْكُنُوا۟liyaskunūthat they may restفِيهِfīhiin it,وَٱلنَّهَارَwal-nahāraand the dayمُبْصِرًاmub'ṣirangiving visibility / lighted?إِنَّinnaIndeed,فِىinذَٰلِكَdhālikathat (are)لَـَٔايَـٰتٍlaāyātinsurely signs / proofsلِّقَوْمٍliqawminfor a peopleيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believe. ﴿٨٦﴾
[27:87] On the day when the horn is blown, everyone in the heavens and the earth will be horrified, except those chosen by GOD. All will come before Him, forcibly.
وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd (the) dayيُنفَخُyunfakhu[it] will be blownفِى[in]ٱلصُّورِl-ṣūrithe hornفَفَزِعَfafaziʿaand [he] (will be) terrified / horrifiedمَنmanwhoeverفِى(is) inٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَمَنwamanand whoeverفِى(is) inٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthإِلَّاillāexceptمَنmanwhomشَآءَshāa[He] willed.ٱللَّهُl-lahuGodوَكُلٌّwakullunand allأَتَوْهُatawhuthey came to Himدَٰخِرِينَdākhirīna[ones] humbled / forcibly. ﴿٨٧﴾
Earth's Movement: A Scientific Miracle
[27:88] When you look at the mountains, you think that they are standing still. But they are moving, like the clouds. Such is the manufacture of GOD, who perfected everything. He is fully Cognizant of everything you do.
وَتَرَىwatarāAnd you seeٱلْجِبَالَl-jibālathe mountains,تَحْسَبُهَاtaḥsabuhāyou thinking it (is)جَامِدَةًjāmidatanfirmly fixed / standing still,وَهِىَwahiyawhile theyتَمُرُّtamurru[it] passes / drifts / moves (as)مَرَّmarra[it] passed / drifted / movedٱلسَّحَابِl-saḥābithe clouds.صُنْعَṣun'ʿa(The) manufactureٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Godٱلَّذِىٓalladhīthe One whoأَتْقَنَatqanaHe perfectedكُلَّkullaallشَىْءٍshayinthing(s).إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He (is)خَبِيرٌۢkhabīrunCognizantبِمَاbimāof whatتَفْعَلُونَtafʿalūnayou [all] do. ﴿٨٨﴾
The Day of Judgment
[27:89] Those who bring good works (in their records) will receive far better rewards, and they will be perfectly secure from the horrors of that day.
مَنmanWhoeverجَآءَjāahe cameبِٱلْحَسَنَةِbil-ḥasanatiwith the good,فَلَهُۥfalahuthen for himخَيْرٌkhayrun(will be) betterمِّنْهَاmin'hāthan it,وَهُمwahumand they,مِّنminfromفَزَعٍfazaʿin(the) terror (of)يَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayءَامِنُونَāminūna[ones] safe / secure. ﴿٨٩﴾
[27:90] As for those who bring evil works, they will be forced into Hell. Do you not get requited for what you did?
وَمَنwamanAnd whoeverجَآءَjāahe cameبِٱلسَّيِّئَةِbil-sayi-atiwith the evil,فَكُبَّتْfakubbatthen [it] (will be) cast downوُجُوهُهُمْwujūhuhumtheir facesفِىinٱلنَّارِl-nārithe Fire / Hell.هَلْhalWouldتُجْزَوْنَtuj'zawnayou [all] will be requitedإِلَّاillāexceptمَا(for) whatكُنتُمْkuntumyou [all] used toتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūna[you all] do? ﴿٩٠﴾
[27:91] I am simply commanded to worship the Lord of this town - He has made it a safe sanctuary - and He possesses all things. I am commanded to be a submitter.
إِنَّمَآinnamāOnlyأُمِرْتُumir'tuI was commandedأَنْanthatأَعْبُدَaʿbudaI worshipرَبَّrabba(the) Lord (of)هَـٰذِهِhādhihithisٱلْبَلْدَةِl-baldati[the] town,ٱلَّذِىalladhīthe One whoحَرَّمَهَاḥarramahāHe made it sacred / a sanctuaryوَلَهُۥwalahuand to Him (belongs)كُلُّkulluallشَىْءٍshayinthing(s).وَأُمِرْتُwa-umir'tuAnd I was commandedأَنْanthatأَكُونَakūnaI beمِنَminaofٱلْمُسْلِمِينَl-mus'limīnathe submitters. ﴿٩١﴾
[27:92] And to recite the Quran. Whoever is guided is guided for his own good, and if they go astray, then say, "I am simply a warner."
وَأَنْwa-anAnd thatأَتْلُوَا۟atluwāI reciteٱلْقُرْءَانَl-qur'ānathe Quran.فَمَنِfamaniAnd whoeverٱهْتَدَىٰih'tadāhe received guidance / was led on the right wayفَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāthen onlyيَهْتَدِىyahtadīhe will receive guidanceلِنَفْسِهِۦlinafsihifor himself / his soul;وَمَنwamanand whoeverضَلَّḍallahe strayedفَقُلْfaqulthen say,إِنَّمَآinnamā"Onlyأَنَا۠anāI amمِنَminaofٱلْمُنذِرِينَl-mundhirīnathe warners." ﴿٩٢﴾
[27:93] And say, "Praise be to GOD; He will show you His proofs, until you recognize them. Your Lord is never unaware of anything you do."
وَقُلِwaquliAnd say,ٱلْحَمْدُl-ḥamdu"All praise beلِلَّهِlillahito God.سَيُرِيكُمْsayurīkumHe will show you [all]ءَايَـٰتِهِۦāyātihiHis signs / proofs,فَتَعْرِفُونَهَاfataʿrifūnahāand you [all] will recognize them.وَمَاwamāand not (is)رَبُّكَrabbukayour Lord بِغَـٰفِلٍbighāfilinever unawareعَمَّاʿammāof whatتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnayou [all] do." ﴿٩٣﴾
